We could not be more excited to share the recent story from Robert J. Dole VA Medical Center highlighting Dr. Elizabeth “Lizzie” Cook, Nesbitt School of Pharmacy 2015 graduate! Check out the story below!

“Good catch!” It’s something you hear quite often at baseball diamonds and football fields. But, did you know the term is also used in the healthcare industry?

The Good Catch Award recognizes proactive efforts by individuals to prevent an incident or even harm through corrective action or timely intervention.

During a routine diabetes management visit, Dr. Elizabeth “Lizzie” Cook, Pharmacist, identified that a Veteran’s prescription had been incorrectly renewed at twice the recommended maximum dose for a two-week period. After confirming the Veteran’s previous regimen, she instructed the patient not to administer the incorrect dose and updated the prescription.

The event resulted in a system-wide change to the drug’s file in VA’s medical record system by removing the default dosing frequency, thus reducing the risk of future prescribing errors.

Dr. Cook’s attention to detail and intervention prevented a potentially harmful medication error and drove a system-wide improvement that enhances medication safety for future patients.

Great job, Lizzie!! Thank you for your commitment to providing safe care to the Veterans we serve.

Congrats Dr.Bolesta, we could not be prouder of you and your accomplishments!

If you asked Scott Bolesta PharmD ‘00, professor of pharmacy practice in the Nesbitt School of Pharmacy, what he has been most proud of this past year, it wouldn’t just be receiving the nationally-recognized title, Fellow of ASHP. He says it’s also “serving as an example to the students of what you can accomplish in your career.”

Bolesta has been a faculty member at Wilkes University since 2005 and became tenured in 2011. Currently, he teaches the clinical side of pharmacy, helping students through experiential learning to gain clinical practice experience at real sites, including the Intensive Care Unit at Wilkes-Barre General Hospital.

🌟 We are incredibly proud of Casey McNally (Class of 2028)! 🌟

Representing the Wilkes University Nesbitt School of Pharmacy and the LKS Alpha Phi Chapter, Casey took the stage at the Lambda Kappa Sigma Annual Convention in Wichita, Kansas, as a participant in the Power to Inspire Speaking Competition.

Standing before pharmacy students, alumni, faculty, and professionals from across the country, Casey courageously shared her personal story with authenticity, confidence, and heart. Speaking in front of an entire convention audience is no small feat, and Casey's willingness to be vulnerable and inspire others reflects the compassion, resilience, and leadership that define our profession.

Casey has already made a tremendous impact within the Nesbitt School of Pharmacy through her dedication, enthusiasm, and commitment to serving others. She consistently brings positive energy, thoughtful leadership, and a genuine desire to make a difference in everything she does. We are grateful for all that she contributes to our school community and are excited to watch her continue to grow as a future pharmacist and leader.

Casey, thank you for representing Wilkes with excellence. Your voice matters, your story inspires, and you are an incredibly valued member of the NSOP family. We are so proud of you! 💙💛
