We’re hiring!

Join the University of Arizona Cooperative Extension in Willcox as an Extension Assistant II, Water Wise! Help teach Cochise County youth about water conservation through classroom lessons, hands-on activities, and community events.

💧 Full-time | 40 hours per week
💧 $16.50–$20.63 per hour
💧 Full University of Arizona benefits

Experience teaching youth and knowledge of water conservation are preferred.

🌱 Cochise Leadership Academy is coming!

Want to make a difference in your community—but aren’t sure where to start? The Cochise Leadership Academy brings together people from across Cochise County to build relationships, develop leadership skills, and turn community ideas into action.

This year’s focus is food security, local food systems, and water conservation, with hands-on learning around collective impact, community asset mapping, strategic planning, and creating sustainable community change.

You don’t have to be a formal leader to participate! We welcome community members, volunteers, staff, emerging leaders, and anyone who wants to help make a difference.

Canning 101 provides practical, research-based education on safe home food preservation. Participants will learn basic canning methods, food safety, equipment, and how to preserve seasonal produce. The class is open to those new to canning, experienced preservers with questions, or anyone wanting a refresher.

Homesteading Program

The Homesteading Program helps Cochise County residents build practical skills, confidence, and self-reliance. Topics include raising animals, backyard chickens, beekeeping, irrigation, growing produce, and food preservation. The program connects participants with local resources while supporting food security and community resilience.

On September 12, 2026, the City of Sierra Vista, in partnership with the Cochise County Cooperative Extension's Water Wise program and local water utility Arizona Water Company (AWC), came together to launch The Long View, an Integrated Demand Management Program (IDMP) that builds upon existing water conservation resources for the community.
