Professor Allison Orr Larsen has been named a 2026 Andrew Carnegie Fellow.

Larsen is one of 24 scholars selected nationally from more than 380 nominees. The fellowship, known as Carnegie’s “brainy award”, supports bold research on political polarization in the United States. Larsen will use the award to complete a new book, “How the Courts Can Save Themselves,” with co-author Neal Devins.

There's still time to give for One Tribe One Day!
A William & Mary Law School education prepares students to excel professionally and embrace a life of leadership and service as citizen lawyers. Our academic offerings are designed to support both these goals, and the Election Law Program is the perfect example of scholarship in action.

The Election Law Program (ELP), founded in 2005, is a nonpartisan, nonprofit organization dedicated to providing resources for judges tasked with resolving election law disputes. Although courts play a vital role in the democratic process, few judges have experience with election law processes. ELP offers continuing legal education for judges and lawyers, trains students in election law and conducts research on the electoral process. Recent accomplishments include a symposium about Virginia’s mid-decade redistricting referendum hosted by the Election Law Society, the student-run branch of ELP, and the receipt of grant funding for research into voter registration systems.

“William and Mary's election law program is one of (if not the only) election law program that excels at placing law students into election law careers,” ELP Director James Alcorn said. “We teach election law as foundational to democracy and have a long history of placing law students into election law internships and externships then eventually into careers with law firms, government, and political parties.”

“Without your support, students like me would not be able to answer our callings. Philanthropy is an expression of identity. It cannot be reduced to a transaction or line item. Thank you for making it possible for me to fulfill my dreams.”

Breanca White, Law School Class of 27 and scholarship recipient, is an active member of the Law School community, serving as a Legal Practice Fellow, a teaching assistant, president of the Black Law Students Association and Co-Logistics Counsel for the National Trial Team during the 2025-26 academic year, and next year serving as chair of the Honor Council. She participated in the second semester of the Law School’s new Community Law Clinic, where she was able to offer legal assistance to underrepresented individuals in her home community. Scholarships have allowed Breanca to pursue her legal education at an exceptional institution and take advantage of numerous opportunities that will benefit her future career.
