- Heightened Moral Awareness
The Alpha- Eta Chapter of Sigma Pi (William and Mary) prides it's self on being the most diverse fraternity at the College, consisting of active members with backgrounds and heritages all over the globe, from South Africa, to Bangladesh to New York City. Our chapter takes pride in it's participation in numerous areas, including:
Brotherhood - the strong bond between our actives is what makes Sigma Pi different from other fraternities on campus. Our line goes back over 100 years and has more than 80,000 members. We became a part of William and Mary in 1931 and have seen over 670 alumni pass through our doors. And even with this history, there are always new opportunities for you to take leadership roles and create your own traditions. Philanthropy & Service- We host numerous philanthropic events on campus, such as our fall philanthropy the "Nerf Superbowl" . Sigma Pi hosts an "ACE Project" yearly, which aims to give back to the campus community in a tangible way. Brothers also participate in numerous other philanthropic & service events around campus, and are actively encouraged to get involved in service outside of the fraternity. Academics – The Sigma Pi Man takes pride in being diligent in their studies. During the pledge process, our chapter gives each pledge all of the necessary tools and resources to succeed in their academic endeavors. Study hours, and grade checks are ways in which we help our new members stay on top of their studies. We also have brothers at the top of virtually every academic department who will always be willing to offer help. A test bank and tutoring network also are available for brother use. Athletics - Sigma Pi has claimed the Fraternity Cup in Intramarul sports two out of the last three years (we have won the most athletic competitions throughout the year), with recent championships in soccer, with the sorority Kappa Kappa Gamma, and basketball among others. Job Advantages - Recruiters know that the fraternity experience prepares a man for success. Although fraternity alumni number less than 2% of the population, they make up 52% of the U.S. Senate, 33% of the House of Representatives and 75% of the top executives of the 500 largest business corporations. Sigma Pi alumni may also help a brother get a job.
- Approximately 80 percent of the top executives of Fortune 500 companies are fraternity men.
- The majority (71 percent) of those listed in Who's Who in America are fraternity men.
- Seventy-six percent of current United States senators and congressmen are fraternity men.
- Forty percent of the 47 Supreme Court justices since 1910 have been fraternity men.
- One hundred of the 158 cabinet members since 1900 have been fraternity men.
- All but two United States Presidents since 1825 have been fraternity men. Each year, thousands of young men enter the working world with the competitive advantage of fraternity experience and alumni contacts. We hope to offer that experience to you, alongside service and philanthropic events, academic guidance, athletic opportunities, a social outlet, and brotherhood.
