The Department of Music at the College of William and Mary hosts an esteemed group of scholars, composers, and performers and offers a multi-faceted program to undergraduate liberal arts students. The department seeks to teach music through its interrelated subdisciplines - music history, ethnomusicology, music theory, composition, and performance - within the context of a broader liberal arts cur

riculum. Our curriculum is grounded in classical music, world musics, and a full complement of American music (jazz, music and film, popular music, musical theatre, performance art). The department collectively values the contributions of all musical cultures and styles, and in any given semester offers courses that reflect this diversity.

The William & Mary Music Department hosted the The All-American Alumni Band this past week. The band is comprised of former members of the McDonald's All-American High School Band which was established in 1967 and continued until 1992. The Band made annual appearances at the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade and the Tournament of Roses Parade. The performance in the Music Arts Center's Concert Hall featured patriotic music, show tunes, and Declaration, a world premiere by Broadway arranger and Alumni Band member, Kim Sharnberg.

Students in MUSC 360 Musical Theatre Performance, taught by Professors Phaedra McNorton and Tiffany Haas were treated to a masterclass by legendary Broadway composer and lyricist, Stephen Schwartz this morning. The final project is a full production of Schwartz's Godspell in the Glenn Close Theatre tomorrow evening at 7:30pm.
