William Randolph Lodging - Colonial Williamsburg

William Randolph Lodging - Colonial Williamsburg Since 1737. Home of Colonial Williamsburg's Youngest Residents.

The William Randolph Lodging, affectionately known as the CW House, is nestled in the heart of Colonial Williamsburg. Originally built in 1737 as the temporary Williamsburg home for William Randolph, Jr., Esq., then Treasurer of the Colony and Royal Councillor of State, the home was reconstructed in 1949 along with much of the historic district. Each year, the College of William & Mary awards a pa

ir of rising juniors or seniors the opportunity to live in the William Randolph Lodging. The students host a variety of programs throughout the year – both at the CW House and on campus – and offer students the chance to stay involved in the history that surrounds them. Stay tuned to receive the latest updates on events like trivia nights (with prizes!), holiday parties, contests, games, tours, lectures, and more!

With graduation and departmental ceremonies behind us, the 2021-22 school year is a wrap! And that means the end of our run as the residents of the Wm. Randolph Lodging. Daniel and I (McKinley) have so enjoyed sharing little slices of our time in the house with you, and will be thrilled to keep up with next year’s incoming residents in the fall. Until this, this is the CW House, signing off!

McKinley and I answer the most important question…are we haunted?

The answer may surprise you.

Fall comes to the Historic Area in fits and starts, but the next few weeks should see most of the trees start to turn. The trees along the Palace Green have already lost many of their leaves, but several of the trees along Nicholson Street are starting to shade yellow and orange.

The pros and cons of living in the middle of the largest open air living history museum in the country. If you have more time than McKinley does, you can see the Fifes & Drums under the Great Oak on the Nicholson Street side of Market Square every Tuesday and Friday evening at 5:00pm!

You can’t help but love Colonial Williamsburg at the golden hour. Now that the days are getting shorter and there’s a wonderful chill in the air, evening strolls down Nicholson Street have become one of my favorite parts of living in the Historic Area. The good news: they’re one that anybody can experience! Do you need recommendations? Send us a message and we’ll give you some other favorite spots.

Dear friends, followers of the CW House new and old, I am sad to say that I come before you today with a confession. When Daniel and I introduced ourselves to you all as this year’s residents, we neglected to mention two of our fellow residents in the house, and I only now realized our grievous mistake. I would like you to meet the two smallest residents of the house, pictured here as they go about their days. On the left (and in the second picture) is Seamus, an Anglo concertina, who is a great fan of Irish session music, and particularly of lyrical ballads. When not jamming with his friends, Seamus enjoys reading reproduction books. On the right (and in the third picture) is a currently unnamed Irish button accordion, who loves trad tunes with a bit of spirit, and enjoys trilling and warbling on a cool summer evening. While it is still looking for a name (maybe you can help, dear followers?), it nevertheless loves the view out the back window and the sound of carriages driving past.
As you can see from the last photo, however, only Seamus has a CW pass! (something to do with “needing a legal name”, whatever that is….) Are you like Seamus, sporting a gorgeous photo likeness about town? If not, who wouldn’t want to be like Seamus? Be careful not to hurt his delicate feelings, and go get yourself a free Colonial Williamsburg student pass today!
