At University of the Cumberlands, Ana Muse ’26 turned what she was learning into real-world marketing experience before graduation.

It started with one email. Ana’s initiative led to a marketing and communications internship with the City of Somerset, which opened the door to two additional roles with Somerset Candle Co. and Triple Edge Creative.

With support from Cumberlands faculty and staff, Ana was also able to earn academic credit for her internship while building skills in social media management, content strategy, brand research, and project management.

Her experience shows how Cumberlands students can combine classroom learning, internships, professional connections, and personal initiative to prepare for what comes next.

University of the Cumberlands was recently ranked No. 1 in Kentucky and No. 4 nationally among Washington Monthly's Best Colleges for Rural America.

At Cumberlands, students can access an affordable education close to home while finding the quality and support they need to reach their goals.

For students like Eli Dunn of nearby Corbin, Kentucky, those things matter. Affordability helped make Cumberlands the right choice for him, and now he's studying elementary education and preparing to become a teacher, a profession Washington Monthly identifies as being in high demand in rural communities.

For more than 135 years, Cumberlands has been creating opportunities like these for students in rural Appalachia.
