What if a boat could “fly?”

That question sparked the creation of Pesce Volante, aka the “Flying Fish,” an autonomous racing boat built by William & Mary students. The result: a first-place performance against a field of larger engineering schools at the 2026 Promoting Electric Propulsion competition.

William & Mary Racing won the 2026 Promoting Electric Propulsion (PEP) autonomous division.

The Robert M. Gates Initiative in American Statecraft will advance research and dialogue around diplomacy, security, technology, and American strategy, preparing the next generation of public servants and policy leaders.

Inspired by the legacy of Chancellor Robert M. Gates ’65, L.H.D. ’98, the Robert M. Gates Global Policy Center and William & Mary are launching a signature center for foreign policy teaching and research.

A win worth celebrating! 📚🏅

In the NCAA’s latest Academic Progress Rate report, William & Mary Tribe Athletics ranked second nationally among Division I public schools in both perfect APR scores and Public Recognition Awards. W&M also led the CAA and the Commonwealth with 12 nationally recognized programs.

William & Mary Athletics registered strong numbers in the latest Academic Progress Rate released by the NCAA.
