We've had a great first week of classes, and have loved seeing our students back on campus and back in their online classes.

This week also gave us plenty to celebrate, including SOE student and Graduate Council President David Davenport Ph.D. ’27, who led the 2026 Convocation procession with Student Assembly President Nico Giro-Martin.

We love seeing our students lead, thrive and make an impact in the community!

We're reflecting on a special summer at the School of Education! ☀

Students of all ages were engaged in meaningful learning experiences throughout the summer, with more than 1,000 new and returning students taking part in camps such as Camp Launch and Camp EAGER.

We’re proud to celebrate their curiosity, growth and accomplishments. Thank you to everyone who helped make this summer a memorable one!

This summer, the School of Education welcomed students from our Ed.D. and Online Counseling programs to campus for two residency experiences!

These residencies give our online students the opportunity to connect face-to-face with faculty, collaborate with classmates and participate in hands-on activities that enhance learning and help build community.

Congratulations to Anya Ruzicka ’25, Cert ’26, M.A.Ed. ’26 on being named a 2026–2027 Fulbright U.S. Student Scholar! 🌟

The Fulbright U.S. Student program is an international academic exchange program designed to increase international understanding and collaboration. Fulbright fellowships and scholarships provide opportunities for students, educators, professionals and scholars to teach English, pursue graduate studies or conduct research worldwide.

“I am beyond honored,” Ruzicka said. “This opportunity will allow me to grow as an educator, learning innovative teaching strategies from Rwandan teachers while helping students use language as a tool for connection and empowerment.”

It’s been a fun summer over at the School of Education! ☀️

One highlight has been Camp Launch, hosted by the School of Education’s Center for Gifted Education. Since 2012, the camp has empowered high-ability, low-socioeconomic students in grades 7–10 with academic and enrichment opportunities that help launch brighter educational and career futures. For the past six years, the William & Mary Batten School & VIMS have partnered with Camp Launch to help make those experiences possible.

Please join us in congratulating Alice Shepley for successfully defending her dissertation on July 8. Her study is “Choosing to Stay: An Interpretive Phenomenological Study of Career Perseverance in Secondary World Language Teachers." Her dissertation committee included Chris Gareis, Margaret Constantino and Leslie Grant. Congratulations, Dr. Shepley!
