Stephen Schwartz, the Tony Award-winning composer and lyricist behind Broadway hits including "Wicked," "Godspell" and "Pippin," visited William & Mary to mentor student performers ahead of their production of "Godspell."

Schwartz's visit to campus began Thursday evening with 'An Evening with Stephen Schwartz,' during which students performed solos of his songs and he spoke about writing for Broadway. The visit was arranged by Tiffany Haas, a Yorktown native and William & Mary musical theater voice teacher who directed and choreographed the student production. Haas developed a friendship with Schwartz during her decade performing as Glinda in "Wicked" on Broadway and in the national tour.

"When we were deciding on Godspell, I thought who better to reach out to and see if he will come than Stephen Schwartz, the writer," Haas said.

Happy One Tribe Day! 💚💛 At the Muscarelle, our mission is to expand access to the arts for W&M students, local families, and greater Williamsburg. For over 40 years, the Muscarelle has hosted student events, educational workshops and celebratory events throughout the semester. This past fall, the Muscarelle hosted its annual Community Art Day, where students were encouraged to partake in art activities, live music from student groups and tours of the galleries. Though the physical Muscarelle Museum has changed and expanded, our core values within the community remain unwavering.

This special 60-minute performance offers audiences a rare opportunity to experience Weilerstein’s visionary project just before she performs it at Carnegie Hall.

Alisa Weilerstein’s FRAGMENTS 5 marks the next chapter of her groundbreaking, multi-year solo cello project, which interweaves movements from J.S. Bach’s Cello Suites with 27 newly commissioned works by leading contemporary composers. Each installment is crafted as an immersive, theatrically staged experience, performed without interruption.

Co-presented in partnership with the Arts Festival.
