Hip Hip Hooray for GSA! 🥳

Our club has been recognized all over Lycoming campus for all the hard work we put in!

On April 18th at the Student Senate PDR Dinner, GSA was awarded most creative event for our Tea Party program during Pride Week (an idea born from Historian .m.m_4 🤩), the Parliamentarian award for having 100% of minutes sent in (way to go Secretary 😉), and our President Geo won Junior Senator of the Year! 🤘🏽

On April 24th at Honors Convocation, President Geo was inducted in the IRUSKA Honor Society for her involvement in numerous campus activities such as GSA, LASO, and Student Senate. 🫡

Lastly, yesterday evening, GSA’s Pride Week was awarded Outstanding Program of the Year at the Leadership & Service Awards Banquet. ☺️

We thank everybody who supported our club whether it was from coming to club meetings, attending our events, or even rooting for us from afar. We cannot wait to show you what we have in store for next school year. This is only the beginning. 🥹

What is Day of Silence? 🤔 Day of Silence is a day where people take a vow of silence to shed light on bullying that LGBTQ+ youth go through in their lives. It is a student-led movement with the help of where at a designated time, Break the Silence rallies are held. Please consider joining Lycoming GSA in taking a vow of silence as a way of protesting the harmful effects of bullying on LGBTQ+ youths considering the bullying they’re facing from their politicians. Our Break the Silence rally will take place during our regular GSA time where we reflect on our experiences and discuss how we can move forward to take effective action towards our message.

Happy Trans Day of Visibility! Remember that 2021 became the deadliest year for transgender people, Texas wants parents of trans children to be reported for child abusers, and trans youth are more likely to be bullied than cis straight peers according to the CDC. The fight continues and we’re right behind our transgender friends. Are you? 🏳️‍⚧️⚧

Today is which to raise awareness about the global HIV/AIDS epidemic and honor the lives lost due to AIDS. Back when AIDS was first discovered in 1981, misinformation and hysteria was spread to demonize the gay community dubbing it “the gay plague”. People saw it as a divine retribution from God and as a result, LGBT people living with AIDS were subjected to discrimination and were less likely to be treated. The HIV/AIDS epidemic is still ongoing, which is currently the longest and deadliest ongoing pandemic.

Today is Transgender Day of Remembrance. In honor of those among the transgender, non-binary, and intersex communities who have lost their lives to transphobic violence , GSA held a vigil on Wednesday. 2021 has been the deadliest year on record for trans people with 375 people losing their lives. It is important that we recognize the violence trans people face simply for living their truth and that we all work towards making the world a safe place for all trans people to live in.
