Lycoming College is expanding academic opportunities with the launch of a new exercise science program! This dynamic and growing field sits at the intersection of biology, health, and human performance, preparing students for careers in healthcare, rehabilitation, fitness, and athletic settings—an area expected to grow 9–14 percent by 2034.

Rooted in the biological and health sciences and enriched by Lycoming’s liberal arts tradition, the program integrates exercise physiology, anatomy, biomechanics, nutrition, and psychology. Students can choose from flexible Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Science pathways while gaining laboratory-based learning, faculty-guided research, and real-world professional experiences beginning in their first year.

This May Term, three Lycoming College students joined Dr. Ryan Adams in Puerto Rico for ANTH 451: Anthropological Field School, an immersive travel course exploring cultural anthropology through hands-on fieldwork, interviews, participant observation, and cultural exploration across San Juan and beyond. 🌎🇵🇷

In this reel, Hailey Quinn ’29, an anthropology and environmental studies double major and recipient of the Lowry Ambassador Scholarship for study abroad, shares moments from the group’s two weeks of research and adventure, from Old San Juan and local markets to El Yunque Rainforest.

“It was such an amazing experience! I got to learn so much more than if I was just in the classroom. I made great new friends and learned anthropology through doing. I’m so proud of everything we were able to accomplish in just two short weeks!”
