Looking back at where it all began! In 2005, the Global Citizenship Project launched its very first journey, sending participants across five continents to engage with local communities, explore unique cultural perspectives, and make an impact on a global scale.

From the vibrant street markets of Taiwan to the rich traditions of Mali, the iconic landscapes of India, the biodiversity of Costa Rica, and the canals of the Netherlands, these original destinations laid the foundation for global connection and cross-cultural learning. 🌐✨

✨ Meet the Alumni Board Tuesday Spotlight: McKenzie Mathis Caldwell ’20, ’23

From student-athlete to award-winning physical therapist, McKenzie’s Shenandoah journey is full of big wins!

Now treating athletes and active adults at Rehab 2 Perform in Leesburg, VA, McKenzie guides patients through every step of recovery—from post-op care back to peak athletic competition.

Here’s how SU played a role in her story:
🎓 Degree to Career: Hands-on internships and an SU clinical rotation led directly to landing her dream job at R2P after graduation.
🏆 Championship Moments: Cutting down the nets with SU Women’s Basketball after winning the ODAC Championship.
💙 Giving Back: Serving on the Alumni Board, supporting SU Athletics & PT, and returning to Wi******er for Homecoming tailgates!
💍 A Personal Connection: SU is also where she met her husband, Mason Caldwell ’22, ’23!

Today, we are proud to recognize SMSgt Sarah Howard-Carter '01 for two incredible milestones in her musical and military career!

At the National Flute Association convention in Portland, Oregon, Sarah performed in the world premiere of Benjamin Roberts’ Effigy, a moving composition written to honor the Statue of Liberty, during one of the convention's flagship gala concerts. 🎶🗽

In addition to her musical performance, Sarah accepted a promotion to Senior Master Sergeant and will be relocating back to Virginia to serve as the Superintendent for the USAF Heritage of America Band at Joint Base Langley-Eustis.

Sarah’s dedication to artistic excellence and service reflects the highest standards of leadership. Please join us in congratulating Senior Master Sergeant Howard-Carter on these extraordinary achievements! 🇺🇸

Shenandoah Homecoming & Family Weekend is officially in the books! Thank you to all the incredible alumni, families, students, and community members who came back to campus and made it a weekend to remember.

Here are a few highlights from the weekend:
🏆Distinguished Alumni Awards Ceremony: pictured - Brody Grant ’21, Charles Harbaugh IV ’09, ’11, Patrick McCoy ’05, and Benjamin Luczak ’09, ’15. Not pictured: Whitney Handy ’20. And a very special 50th reunion of the class of 1976!

🚜The groundbreaking of the expansion of the James R. Wilkins, Jr. Athletics and Events Center!

✅Answer: Sept. 10, 2022! The SU Marching Band brings total energy to the field, campus, and local community featuring not just our marching musicians, but also our rock band, color guard, and spirit team! 🎸🚩📣

Since their debut in 2022, the band has taken their talents around the globe including an unforgettable international performance at the London New Year’s Day Parade on Jan. 1, 2025! 🇬🇧✈️🎶

✨ Celebrating Barbara Cramer Crouse ’66! ✨

A lifelong musician, teacher, and storyteller, Barbara has released her third book, “By These I Am Formed.” 📖

Her memoir reflects on the faith that shaped her, the music that sustained her, and the mentors at SU — including Dean Skeat, Miss Temple, and President Racey — who helped launch her musical journey. 🎶💙

Now in her 80s and “almost retired,” Barbara continues to inspire through her devotion to music and storytelling. We’re proud to celebrate Barbara’s remarkable journey! ✨🐝
