Cross-departmental learning at its finest!
Last week, Dr. Jessica Sansone hosted Shenandoah University Division of Nutrition and Dietetics students in the Exercise Physiology Lab for a live demonstration of the metabolic cart.
Students got a firsthand look at how indirect calorimetry can be used to determine resting energy expenditure and substrate utilization - helping bridge the gap between theory and practical assessment!

🏋‍♂️ October is Exercise is Medicine On Campus Month! 🏃‍♀️‍➡️

This month, the class EXSC 412 Exercise is Medicine is leading the charge with developing and implementing exercise programming throughout the month of October. Check out the SU EIM-OC website (link in bio!) for more information about upcoming events and challenges!

Special thanks to Dr. Yolanda Gibson for participating in the Kickoff Event this past Friday October 2nd, to deliver the President’s proclamation for the American College of Sports Medicine initiative!

🌟 Student Spotlight! 🌟 This summer, Katerina Deising spent the summer interning at the European Box Lacrosse Championship in Prague with Witmer Solutions.

When asked about her experience, Kat said “I was there interning with certified ATs and physios from all around Europe, shadowing and helping where needed. I stayed mostly with the Men’s Switzerland team. We dealt with lots of heat strokes (hottest week of summer!) and broken collarbones.”

The tournament took place at three venues over 10 days with 18 men’s teams and 7 women’s teams.

💪Active learning in process! Students in EXSC 410 Exercise Testing & Prescription collected heart rate data using the Astrand-Rhyming cycle ergometer test in order to predict their VO2max. The students are honing their exercise testing skills to work with clients to perform preparticipation screening, exercise testing, and individualized exercise prescription later in the semester.
