A Night to Remember at West Gate-Adelphic Lodge No. 509

Please join us in welcoming our newest Entered Apprentices, Brother Tony Junk and Brother Shay Techau, into the fraternity.

Their initiation marks the beginning of a journey that has shaped good men for generations—a journey of self-improvement, brotherhood, service, and lifelong learning.

We are especially proud of the growing number of men who are exploring Freemasonry and taking the first steps on their Masonic path. Even more encouraging is seeing our newest candidates actively involved, attending Lodge functions, supporting events, and already contributing to our culture.

At West Gate-Adelphic Lodge No. 509, we are committed to providing every candidate with an experience worthy of the traditions we have inherited and the future we are building together.

Brethren, please join us in congratulating Brother Tony and Brother Shay on this important milestone.

Brethren, friends and neighbors

As Memorial Day approaches, we pause together as Americans and as Masons to remember the men and women who gave their lives in service to our nation. Their sacrifice secured freedoms that many of us enjoy every day without fully realizing the cost at which they were earned.

Memorial Day is more than the beginning of summer gatherings or a long weekend. It is a sacred reminder that courage, duty, and selfless service remain among the highest virtues a person can possess. Across generations, countless individuals answered the call to stand in defense of others, knowing they themselves might never return home.

Within Freemasonry, we are taught to honor integrity, brotherhood, charity, and devotion to something greater than ourselves. Those values are reflected in the lives of the fallen heroes we remember today. Many left behind families, dreams, careers, and futures so that others could live in peace and liberty.

As Worshipful Master, I encourage each of us to take a moment this Memorial Day to reflect with gratitude. Visit a memorial, fly the flag proudly, quietly reflect that freedom has always required sacrifice.

May we remember the families who continue to carry the weight of loss long after the ceremonies end. Their strength and perseverance deserve our respect and support.

On behalf of the officers and brethren of West Gate-Adelphic Lodge No. 509, I extend our deepest gratitude to all who served and especially to those who made the ultimate sacrifice.

May we never forget them.

Fraternally,

Steve Blondino
Worshipful Master

We are incredibly grateful for the support shown at this morning’s Free Will Donation Pancake Breakfast benefiting Altoona South Gate Rainbow Assembly of Iowa Rainbow Girls.

Even competing with a holiday weekend, this community showed up once again in a big way.

While final numbers are still being confirmed, the breakfast raised approximately $469 through cash and Square donations — with 100% of proceeds going directly to support Rainbow Girls and the opportunities they provide for young women across Iowa.

But beyond the donations, one of the most meaningful outcomes of the morning was the submission of two new petitions from young ladies interested in joining Altoona South Gate Rainbow Assembly.

That alone makes today a success.

Thank you to everyone who attended, donated, cooked, volunteered, shared the event, and helped support the next generation of leaders.

Another day of West Gate-Adelphic 509 fellowship, food, and community.

With Memorial Day weekend schedules filling up quickly, we decided to gather a little early this year so more of our Brothers, families, and friends could spend time together.

Monday’s Memorial Day cookout brought everyone together for an afternoon of good food and even better company. From the grill to the conversations around the tables, it was a reminder that the strength of a Lodge is built just as much outside the meeting room as inside it.

We’re grateful for everyone who helped cook, organize, clean up, and spend time together.

These are the moments that build lasting friendships and stronger communities.

And yes — there was plenty of food.
