Winona State University's Teaching, Learning & Technology (TLT) team is continuing the weekly series – Teaching and Technology Tips and Tricks, or “T(4)” for short. This week’s topic: End of Semester Tips and Planning.

The end of the semester is approaching . . . Are you ready?!

1. Check your gradebook for these common mistakes. Work with TLT to do a double-check.
a. Do you have ungraded items?
b. Are ungraded items dropped from the final grade? Check out Step 3 of the Setup Wizard in the Gradebook to confirm. (See Attached "Ungraded Items" Image)
c. Do you have grades that are excluded from the final grade calculation? Grade items that come from publisher tools are excluded from the gradebook by default. (See Attached "Excluded Items" Image)
2. "Release" final grades. If you want your students to see their final calculated grades in D2L Brightspace, you must release them (https://learn.winona.edu/wiki/Release_final_grades_in_Brightspace).
a. Remember, these are not "official" grades and you will still need to submit those using the Minnesota State eServices (https://learn.winona.edu/wiki/Post_official_course_grades_online).
3. Closing your D2L Brightspace course. Courses will automatically close on May 16 at midnight. If you want to adjust this date/time, visit our Wiki page (https://learn.winona.edu/wiki/Setting_Brightspace_course_start_and_end_dates). If a single student needs access to your course beyond this date, email TLT ([email protected]) with the course ID, student name, and access end date.
4. Submit Final Grades. Final grades are due by noon on May 14 on Minnesota State e-Services (https://eservices.minnstate.edu/esession/authentication.do?viewLoginForwardName=employeeLogin&campusId=&postAuthUrl=http%3A%2F%2Feservices.minnstate.edu%2Ffaculty%2Fpublic%2Fsecure%2Fhome%2Findex). Grade changes may be submitted during the grading period (without Dean's approval) on WarriorSpace (https://warriorspace.winona.edu/) (form: Change of Grade) and after this period with Dean approval.
a. You can also import your final grades directly from D2L Brightspace by converting them into an approved letter format (https://learn.winona.edu/wiki/Preparing_Grades_in_Brightspace_for_Automatic_Export_to_ISRS_Grade_%26_LDA_Entry).
b. Remember: D2L Brightspace grades are not final official grades.
5. Save Your Course. You can export your course as a .zip file for future use or sharing.
6. Get ready for Summer and/or Fall semester. Create a sandbox course. Merge multiple sections. Check your content for accessibility.

All T(4) emails will be posted to our WSU Technology Knowledge Base Wiki page (https://learn.winona.edu/wiki/T(4)_Teaching_and_Technology_Tips_and_Tricks), in case you miss one or need to reference a tip in the future.
