Groundbreaking for a Public Safety Building

Yesterday Dr Alzate and Maddie visited Lewiston to witness the groundbreaking for a public safety building that has been in the works for over two decades. Everyone involved put in a great deal of time and effort to make their community a safer place for all those who live there, and it was truly inspiring to see!

Members of our communities have displayed a range of emotions following the shooting of Charlie Kirk. This act is part of a pattern of political assassinations and attempts over the last 14 months. Many Americans have given up hope in civil discourse and engaging with people of different political views.

But we have a choice. As Maury Giles from Braver Angels said yesterday, "do I take one more step toward political violence, or do I take one step toward vigorous and respectful debate? I can’t control what others do; I can only control how I respond."

If you are trying to determine the best response for you, consider these workshops by Braver Angels:

By now, you may have heard that the WSU Civic Center has lost its $1.1 million grant from the Department of Defense. We have been waiting for our termination agreement to be finalized to publicly announce it. Although we are deeply disappointed, we are determined to keep moving forward. The purpose of the Civic Center is to bring students and the community together to solve public issues, and we will continue to do that in whatever capacity is available to us. We thank the community at WSU and in SE Minnesota for your support so far. Let’s move forward together!
