Roleplay
Friday, 11/1 ACE Main Theatre - 7 pm

As part of our UNCSA Filmmaking Symposium series join the Schools of Filmmaking and Drama as Producers Darcy McKinnon, Jenny Mercein, and Director Katie Mathews present their groundbreaking documentary "Roleplay" which premiered at SXSW this year earning a Grand Jury Award nomination.

"Roleplay" is the story of college students who confront s*xual violence on their campus through a transformative theater process. This urgent coming of age story follows young people grappling with s*x, consent, identity, and power on their paths to adulthood.

A hosted discussion with the filmmakers will follow the screening.
All are welcome to attend. This event is free and open to the public.

"One of the best docs I've seen so far this year is Katie Mathews "Roleplay," a film that truly surprised me because it does what so few films like this are willing to do: It lets its subjects be messy, unpredictable, and human..."
-Brian Tallerico, Managing Director, RogerEbert.com

"It changed me. Access to these brilliant young minds and what they've accomplished got to me on a cellular level. I remembered to be hopeful for a moment."
-Ashley Smith, Flagpole

“It’s certainly giving them a window to the world, and any time that you have an opportunity to see more of the world, you have more of an opportunity to grow inside,” says Keen. “As you grow inside, you become a different person, and that’s what the hope is.”

At 15, Bob Keen snuck onto a film lot, setting the stage for a 40-year career in visual effects. Now, this "Hellraiser" veteran teaches UNCSA students to blend innovative storytelling with boundary-pushing tech, preparing them for the industry’s future.
