The Department of Art at Wake Forest University is committed to combining the practice of art and the study of art history in order to foster an understanding of the complex potential of visual communication and culture. Our goal is to develop an understanding of, and a respect and enthusiasm for art and for visual experience through instruction and curriculum designed to promote critical thinking

, visual literacy, and creative expression. The department emphasizes the vital role of art within a liberal arts environment by providing a historical, cultural, and social context for the comprehension, evaluation, and creation of visual art.
