We are deeply saddened to let you know that UNCSA School of Design and Production alumnus and faculty member Scott Beckwith passed away yesterday after a short but courageous battle with cancer.
Scott earned his Diploma in Design and Production (D&P) in 1999, his B.F.A. in technical direction in 2008 and his M.F.A. in stage automation in 2010. He served as a visiting faculty member in 2016-17 and joined the permanent faculty in 2017.
Scott was always the first to say, ‘How can I help?’ and the last to leave any shop space or classroom where students might need him. He embodied the philosophy of meeting students where they are, and his steadfast support for students has helped countless of them find their voice and confidence throughout their years at UNCSA. He was commonly found poking his head into colleagues’ offices to check in, or volunteering for D&P-related events promoting student careers and portfolios. He led by example and never stopped learning and striving to help others.
