Did you know that the first chapter of the Black Panther Party to be founded in the South was here in Winston-Salem?

Or that a Black North Carolinian was the first woman in US history to be acquitted of murder on the grounds of using deadly force in self-defense against sexual assault?

WSSU and WFU will co-host a screening of the short films Power to the People, Y'all and Free Joan Little at 7 pm on Monday, September 14, on the WSSU campus. The films will be followed by a discussion with filmmakers Tressie McMillan Cottom and Yoruba Richen as well as local BPP co-founder Larry Little, who is featured in both documentaries.

Please share this information with anyone who may be interested! This is a unique opportunity to directly engage with inspirational local history. If students need a ride, vans are being organized by the OCCE.

Event details: Monday, September 14, at 7:00 p.m. in the Dillard Auditorium of the Anderson Center, Winston-Salem State University - 1545 Reynolds Park Rd. There is plenty of free parking near the building.

Admission is free, but tickets should be reserved using the QR code.

The Counseling Compact continues to expand! As of September 2026, 40 jurisdictions have enacted Compact legislation, with nine now issuing privileges to practice. This growing interstate partnership is helping reduce barriers to practice, increase professional mobility, and improve access to counseling services across state lines. North Carolina has enacted the Compact and is currently working toward implementation - an exciting step forward for counselors and the clients we serve!

NCE/CPCE Boot Camp - Fall 2026! 📚

Getting ready for the NCE or CPCE? The CSI Epsilon Tau Chapter at East Texas A&M University is hosting a virtual NCE/CPCE Study Session: Boot Camp Edition throughout September!

Participants can join five virtual study sessions covering core exam topics and test-taking strategies, followed by a mock exam to put those skills to the test.

CSI is kicking off the school year with a Back-to-School Supply Drive, and we’d love your help providing students with the supplies they need to learn, grow, and thrive!

✏️ Donate backpacks, notebooks, folders, binders, pencils, pens, highlighters, dry erase markers, rulers, pencil pouches, glue sticks, paper, sticky notes, and index cards.

We're off to an incredible start at the North Carolina Counseling Association conference 😍! Our students rocked the poster presentations 👏, Dr. Grybush was recognized with two prestigious awards 🏆, and we loved reconnecting with alum Jennifer Veliz-Gomez 🤝. And the Asheville mountains are looking particularly beautiful today! Can't wait to see what Day 2 has in store! 🎩
