Yesterday, Wake Forest Law's incoming students wrapped up Foundations Week by volunteering at sites throughout the community.

This year's volunteer locations included Forsyth Humane Society, LEAD Girls of NC, Senior Services & Williams Adult Day Center, Habitat for Humanity Restore, A Bed and A Book, Second Harvest Food Bank, Bookmarks, Kaleideum, Old Fellows Cemetery, and SECU Family House.

Jalila Hader (SJD '30) recently co-authored an article titled, “Exploring Webs of Care: Social Love Within Women’s Movements,” in Social Sciences as part of the special Issue, “The Civic Potential of Love: Solidarity in Action and the Making of the Social.” The article is co-authored with Chung Ah Baek, Deepta Chopra, Salonie Hiriyur, Mubashira Zaidi, and Iffat Jahan Antara.

The article explores how care, solidarity, friendship, and social love operate within women’s movements and help sustain activists and collective struggles, particularly in difficult and challenging circumstances. It highlights care not merely as a private or emotional practice, but as an important political and social force within feminist movements.

“In my contribution to the research, I explored a Hazara women’s movement in Pakistan," says Jalila. "Hazara women belong to a historically persecuted ethnic and religious minority and have endured targeted violence, discrimination, insecurity, and social exclusion. Their struggle is not only for survival and protection, but also for justice, equality, political recognition, and the right to participate fully in public life. The research highlights how solidarity, collective care, and strong community networks have helped Hazara women support one another, resist persecution, and sustain their activism despite continuing threats.”

Wake Forest Law Professor Meghan Boone recently published an article in SMU Scholar titled, “The Pregnancy Draft.”

In the article, Professor Boone compares abortion bans to military conscription, examining how the state compels service in each context and what rights and protections are available to those affected.
