Jalila Haider (SJD '30) recently received the 2026 Right to Livelihood Award for her work in defending Pakistan's most vulnerable communities.

As an attorney, Jalila provides free legal representation to minorities, refugees, and transgender individuals in Balochistan, one of Pakistan’s most dangerous regions. Her law firm has taken on more than 7,000 cases and helped remove 600 human rights defenders and political activists from no-fly lists.

"I believe achievements like this are never individual," says Jalila. "They reflect the collective work, courage, and inspiration of so many people, especially the women, communities, colleagues, and friends I have had the privilege of learning from and working alongside."
