This focused advising model will ensure students know who to contact for help and will assist them in staying on track to completing their courses and reaching graduation.

Polk State College is proud to announce that Greg Littleton, Chair of the Polk State College District Board of Trustees, will receive the 2026 James L. Wattenbarger Award at the upcoming Association of Florida Colleges' Council of Trustees and Council of Presidents Joint Meeting in November.

Selected by the presidents of The Florida College System, the James L. Wattenbarger Award is the highest honor bestowed upon an individual in recognition of their support for the Florida College System. Polk State President Anastasios Kamoutsas nominated Littleton, a 1987 graduate of Polk Community College and a Distinguished Alumnus, in recognition of his exemplary, longstanding service to the College and its students.

“It was an honor to nominate Chair Littleton for the prestigious James L. Wattenbarger Award. As a dedicated member of the Board for nearly two decades, he has guided Polk State through the expansion of its programs, campuses, and workforce mission,” said President Kamoutsas. “In the short time I’ve worked with Chair Littleton, I have come to appreciate his faith, thoughtfulness, work ethic, respect in the community, and dedication to his family. Polk State is tremendously blessed to have him serve as our Board Chair.”

President Kamoutsas and his daughters had a great time celebrating Sophomore Day today with the Polk State College Athletics soccer program.

They recognized 12 outgoing sophomores this afternoon. Come out and support these student-athletes as they host Miami-Dade College on Monday at 4 p.m. on the Lakeland Campus for the regular season finale — !

South Florida State College President Fred Hawkins toured Polk State’s Advanced Technology Center, where our expert faculty and staff showcased our Engineering Technology and Computer Numeric Control (CNC) Production Specialist programs.

We also had the opportunity to share about our AgriPolk initiative and future Welding and Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) programs.

For April Potter, Polk State College Professor of Supply Chain Management, each offers a way to help students understand an industry that touches nearly everything they use.

In her classes, students make purchasing decisions, manage inventory, and work together to improve production processes. The activities connect classroom concepts with practical challenges Potter knows from a 38-year career that began on a shipping dock and culminated in her role as Vice President of Supply Chain.

“What surprises many people is that the supply chain exists in every industry,” Potter said.

Her goal is to help students recognize those connections and see the careers they could build within the field.

Polk State’s Haines City-Davenport Campus is on track to a January 2027 opening!

We look forward to welcoming students in our Health Sciences programs to the new campus, which will house Central Florida’s first public higher education interdisciplinary simulation hospital.

Representative Jennifer Canady, Executive Vice President Dr. Kevin O’Farrell, and President Stasi Kamoutsas toured the headquarters of national design-build multi-trade contractor Power Design Inc. in St. Petersburg to learn more about their dynamic projects and workforce development.

We appreciated the discussion regarding apprenticeships and look forward to expanding opportunities for our students in Polk County.
