REMINDER

As we shared in a message to all students on Friday:

- Decals from last academic year expire today and will no longer be valid.

- First year students, who are not commuters or have handicap plates/placards, must move their vehicles to the top floor of the Truist Garage before midnight tonight.

- Parking enforcement will begin in earnest Sept 1, tomorrow, please be sure you have obtained a decal via MyRollins and have affixed it to the rear of your vehicle.

- Faculty and staff who have not updated their decals will be receiving warning citations starting tomorrow. Please ensure the vehicle you bring to campus has a current parking decal affixed to it.

Apply for a parking decal now so that it ready to be picked up when you arrive on campus. Go to MyRollins and search for "parking". The cost can be coded to your student account.

If you have a full-year decal from last year, it will be good until August 31.

Each year, prior to the start of the Academic Year, Campus Safety reaches out to new and returning students to see if they would like to become members of our team.

We are looking for a few students to be part-time employees of our department to function in a variety of support, administrative and es**rt roles for between 12-16 hours per week. Schedules can be flexible, depending on the role and availability. This is not work study - it is a part-time, on campus job.

We have a long track record of our student employees going on to various study abroad, graduate programs, the military, and law schools. These students get to see how a public safety office is administered, they learn the value of managing personal information, and obtain real-world skills that will help them moving forward.

Now is a great time to review not only departmental emergency plans, but personal ones as well. Do you have enough water on hand? How about medications? Have you prepped your home as well as you can to get ready for hurricane season? Have you considered your pets and where you might need to take them? What about elderly neighbors or relatives?

Take 5-10 minutes during a staff meeting to ensure phone contact lists are up to date and that everyone, especially new hires, are comfortable with the plan and how it fits into the larger campus all hazards plan.

Students who are planning on bringing bicycles to campus - please make sure you bring a U-bolt style lock, similar to what you see here: https://www.kryptonitelock.com/en/products/product-information/current-key/005797.html

We aren't endorsing this particular product, only providing an example as to what prevents theft from our campus.

These locks are extremely tough and we have never had a bike stolen when a U-bolt is used correctly. Conversely, chain locks, with the exception of the heaviest of duty locks, can and will be cut rather quickly. Protect your investment and ensure you have a lock that will stand up to the toughest environment.

Good morning.

We know there have been some questions circulating about the status of parking, specifically for first year students and when students would be able to register for their decals. Hopefully, this will help answer those questions and provide you resources should you have additional ones.

Yes, parking for first year students will be different this year. Due to the opening of the East End Neighborhood and several other challenges on and around campus, we do not have a 100% clear picture on what parking will look like after move in. To avoid massive challenges, we have chosen to significantly limit first year student parking. The vast majority of first year's who bring a vehicle will be parking at a lot near Valencia College, less than one mile from campus, or about a 15 minute walk. As we have stated previously, services and support for this lot will be very limited. We also recognize that some students might have mobility challenges or other personal reasons for needing to park in one of our garages on campus. While limited, students can appeal or petition to park on campus by stating their reason and emailing it to [email protected] .

Our hope is that students who do not need a vehicle will hold off for a bit, allow everyone to populate campus, have us assess our parking and permit us to adjust as much as possible. But, please understand, initially, parking for first year students will be very limited and somewhat inconvenient.

All students may now apply for their parking decal via MyRollins under the parking icon. This will save you time once on campus and allow for it to be charged to your student account. All you will need to do is pick up your decal from the Campus Safety office, which is open 24x7 for your convenience. As a word of caution, the most common error that leads to applications being denied is not including a current copy of your vehicle's registration. If you do not include it, or if it is expired, unfortunately it will be denied.

Important for both new and returning students - you will be asked to provide your own personal hurricane preparedness plan before the start of the academic year. If the College were to make the decision to close due to a storm, all residential halls would close until a safety assessment could be completed. At a minimum, this could be 3-4 days where you would need to have a plan. If there are extenuating circumstances, the College could arrange transportation to and from an approved Red Cross shelter to ride out the storm for those without other options. Historically, students have always found other options, but as a last resort, you know the Red Cross shelter is available.

Please take the time now to discuss your options with your family and avoid the stress of last minute planning.
