Next Thursday, October 1, come experience the premiere of “Rivers Run Wild,” a narrative musical by lecturer Daniel Flick (Rollins Music artist-in-residence) and student Magnolia Demers (‘27)! 🪾🛶🐟

Rivers Run Wild is a story that follows two young girls, Aminta and Jeannette, and takes you along their coming-of-age journeys. The story immerses you in the time of old Florida during the years following the Civil War, set against the untamed landscapes of Florida’s rivers, forests, and small communities.

At the heart of their story is the Ocklawaha River; a current of abundance, guidance, and life that carries the girls through the hardships of both growing up and navigating society. As the river winds through the Florida wilderness, it becomes a constant presence in their lives, offering them refuge, connection, and a sense of direction when the world around them feels uncertain.
This historical fiction was created by native Floridians Daniel Flick and Magnolia Demers and shaped by immersive research into Florida’s past. From boating down the Ocklawaha River and horseback riding through orange groves to interviewing fellow Floridians from different backgrounds, the creators sought to experience the landscapes, stories, and perspectives that make up Florida’s history. Along with the immersive research, both Dan and Nolia wrote collaboratively between the script and music — bouncing ideas back and forth and interchanging lines. Through this process, Rivers Run Wild brings to life a Florida that was wild, diverse, and deeply connected to its land and waterways.

Flick and Demers have been working collaboratively and pouring their hearts into this show to make it a great one! We hope you spend your Thursday night celebrating with us as it premieres.
