We are so proud of the work that our Yolo County CalFresh (SNAP-Ed) team has done over the last 20 years.

For 20 years, the Yolo SNAP-Ed program helped build healthier futures for children by promoting nutritious eating, physical activity and healthy habits.

More than 16,268 children received nutrition and health education in English and Spanish.

Under AB 660, starting July 1, 2026, most foods sold in California will use clearer date label wording to help reduce confusion and food waste.

Food may be past peak freshness, flavor, or texture, but that does not automatically mean it is unsafe.

This date tells you when a food item is no longer considered safe to eat.

Why it matters: USDA estimates that 30โ€“40% of the U.S. food supply goes uneaten. Clearer labels can help us waste less while keeping food safety in mind.

AB 660 will also remove most consumer-facing โ€œsell byโ€ dates, which are meant for store inventory but can be confusing at home.

Important exception: eggs and infant formula are not included in this change, so their labels may still look different.
