Clark University English Department The study of English literature and language is fundamental to liberal education.

It guides students in the study of literary works—poems, plays, fiction, essays—and in the development of communication skills. A background in writing and textual analysis prepares students for graduate studies and careers in almost every profession. Recent graduates have entered the fields of communication, fine arts, government, law, management, politics, social services and academia.
