The SLC Dance program presents students with a curriculum that exposes them to vital aspects of dance through physical, creative, and analytical practices.

The Sarah Lawrence College Dance program presents students with an inclusive curriculum that exposes them to vital aspects of dance through physical, creative, and analytical practices. Students are encouraged to study broadly, widen their definitions of dance and performance, and engage in explorations of form and function. A variety of performing opportunities for undergraduate and graduate students are available in both informal and formal settings. Although projects with guest choreographers are frequent, it is the students’ own creative work that is the culmination of their dance experience at the College.

Who is the MFA in Dance at Sarah Lawrence College for?

Hone your artistry in a program of study where critical thinking meets creative practice.

The Master of Fine Arts in Dance program is structured as a training of the holistic dance artist, preparing students to be thoughtful citizen-artists of the 21st century. Students are engaged in intensive, mentored creative work, movement practice, and analytic studies.

First Dance Meeting of the year!

Over 45 dancers from the SLC Dance Community joined us this week to kick off Fall 2026! Students enrolled in the Live Time-Based Art course led us in warmup exercises, phrase work, and improvisations, as they looked for dancers to be cast in their choreographic projects.

Interested in performing in student works this semester? Come to the TBA Casting Session on Tuesday, September 15, 2026 at 1:35 pm in the Bessie Schönberg Dance Theatre! 🪩

Casting is open to the entire SLC community—all experience and levels are welcome to join us! Students cast in a TBA work will perform in Winter PErformance at the end of this semester. DM us if you have any questions!

All performances will be in the Bessie Schönberg Dance Theatre (PAC) and are open to the public!
