Yesterday at the J.D. Brown Center for Entrepreneurship, we welcomed AI expert Dr. James Norrie for the latest Lunch & Learn in our Schmidt Lecture Series.

Dr. Norrie delivered an “AI State of the Union,” exploring where artificial intelligence came from, where it is headed, and what its rapid evolution means for businesses, organizations, and individuals. The conversation also examined the important legal and ethical questions emerging alongside AI’s growing capabilities.

J.D. Brown is proud to celebrate Jakyra "Ky The Chemist" Simpson, recipient of the 2026 American Chemical Society Helen M. Free Award for Public Outreach!

This prestigious national honor recognizes outstanding achievement in communicating chemistry and making science more accessible, engaging, and meaningful to the public. Jakyra has also made history as the youngest recipient of the Helen M. Free Award since its establishment.

Through her work as a chemist, nationally recognized science communicator, and founder of STEAM Sneakerheadz, Jakyra is redefining what science communication can look like by connecting chemistry with sneaker culture, creativity, and hands-on STEAM education.

Her work has reached thousands of students and communities, creating opportunities for young people to see science differently and, most importantly, to see themselves represented within it.

This week, Cooking Up Connections brought together culinary training and essential life preparation. Beyond hands-on cooking skills, Oscar Winters led a session covering key concepts in entrepreneurship, giving students a foundation for leadership and business thinking.
