DANA STUDENT SPOTLIGHT SERIES: Today, we're highlighting another talented student from the Dana School of Music 🎶
Name:
Audrey Jobe
Major:
Instrumental Music Education
Anticipated graduation year:
2024 🐧
What drew me to the school:
I was originally going to major in psychology until I met with former violin professor Joseph Kromholz. After telling me about the program and meeting other faculty members, I ultimately changed my mind and switched my major! Seeing the faculty piano trio perform at YSYO rehearsals and working with Dr. Gage were also huge factors in making my decision. I absolutely love the faculty here at Dana, it is truly a privilege to be able to work with professors that are as phenomenal as they are kind and patient. The string program here is also outstanding, Dana has such an incredible violin studio that fosters growth not only as a musician, but as a person as well.
Hobbies:
Outside of violin I enjoy hiking, embroidering, thrifting, collecting hello kitty themed anything, and roller skating!
Future aspirations:
I would love to continue teaching both privately and in a public school system as well as perform in a chamber group. As I continue teaching, I hope to find a way to make learning violin, or any music education in general, accessible to anyone. What's the use if you just keep it all to yourself and not share it with the world?
Quote:
One of my favorite quotes comes from Frida Kahlo, "At the end of the day, we endure much more than we think we can."
Advice:
1) Mindful practice!!! Very important, that's why it is number 1.
2)Progress is not linear. One mistake does not erase all the hard work you put towards something.
3)Take care of yourself. If you need help, ask. If you need sleep, sleep. If you need to eat, eat. School sometimes makes us forget that we are people with needs too, be gentle with yourself.
