Congratulations to our YSU alumni who participated in the NEOMED White Coat Ceremony, marking the beginning of an exciting new chapter in medical school.

We were also honored to celebrate Dr. Ronald Rhodes, local physician, community partner, keynote speaker, and recipient of the NEOMED Dean’s Leadership Award. Dr. Rhodes inspired students to embrace mentorship, stay open to new opportunities, persevere through challenges, and always put patients first.

His message was simple but powerful: enjoy the journey, learn from every experience, ask for help when you need it, and wear the white coat with pride.

Driveway paintings are back!

Do you want to show your Penguin Pride at home? The Honors Trustees are beginning our driveway paintings for the summer! There are a variety of options for you to choose from including a Big Y, Big Pete the Penguin, Big Y + Big Pete the Penguin, Little Pete the Penguin, and a small Pete the Penguin head.

We will also be offering touch-ups on previously painted YSU logos

*** If you have a blacktop driveway, when you had it last sealed has a huge impact on the durability of your design. We recommend it having your driveway painted within 3 weeks of its last seal ***

Before your driveway painting session, the Honors Trustees will reach out via email and/or phone to let you know when we have scheduled your painting time based on your order instructions. We will also reach out if we have questions about the location of your painting.

You do not have to be present for the driveway painting unless you prefer.

🎉 Congratulations to honors alum Sarah Jenyk on another outstanding achievement! 🎉

Sarah, a senior lecturer of economics in Youngstown State University’s Lariccia School of Accounting and Finance, has received a Blackboard Exemplary Course Program Award for her ECON 1505: Personal Financial Literacy course. 🌟

Recognized internationally for excellence in course design, student engagement, assessment and learner support, Sarah’s course helps students build practical financial skills they’ll use long after graduation- from budgeting and retirement planning to navigating mortgages and analyzing the stock market.

This latest honor adds to an already impressive record of teaching excellence, including YSU’s 2025 Distinguished Professor Award in Teaching. We’re proud to celebrate Sarah’s continued impact on students and her commitment to creating engaging, meaningful learning experiences.

Summer looks good on our Honors students ☀️
From road trips and concerts to graduation celebrations and cheering on their favorite teams, our students have been making the most of their summer adventures. We’ve also seen students serving on a mission trip in Thailand, attending an archaeology field school in Trim, Ireland, exploring their creativity through art classes, performing with their bands, and creating memories that will last a lifetime.

No matter where this summer has taken them, we’re proud to see our Honors students learning, growing, serving, and thriving beyond the classroom. ❤️
