Our YSU alumni are making music around the world! 🌎🎶 Meet Tao Guthrie, a music performance alum whose career has taken him across the globe as a performer with the production “Blast!”
While finishing his degree, Tao was encouraged to audition for “Blast!,” where other alumni, including Keith Hallas, Jason Moncrief, Everettt Beeman, and Tim Tuite, have also worked.
After a successful audition, Tao completed two U.S. tours of “Blast!” followed by numerous international performances, primarily in Japan. Between tours, he performed in musicals including “Annie,” “The Producers,” and more. 19 years later, Tao completed his final “Blast!” production run in Osaka, Japan.
Tao credits his education and performance experiences at the Dana School of Music with preparing him for the demands of touring, including a busy 11-show weekly schedule and early-morning live television appearances.
When reflecting on his career, Tao says his most important post-college skills are “being adaptable and embracing change,” and that “working hard, being curious, and expressing kindness” has helped him succeed.
Congratulations to Tao Guthrie on his continued success! 👏
