Honors Students Take on Project Playhouse!

Our Sokolov Honors College students rolled up their sleeves and put their creativity and teamwork to work at the annual Project Playhouse event at Penguin City!

Our Honors TAs and student staff teamed up to design and build playhouses for local children, turning their ideas into something special. We’re proud of our students for working together, using their creativity, and making a meaningful difference in the community. Thank you to everyone who helped make this event a success!

On Thursday, October 8, seniors at Choffin Career and Technical School participating in the SCOPE (Student-Centered Occupational Planning Experience) Program had the opportunity to hear from a panel of community professionals. The panelists shared insights into their career journeys, educational backgrounds, what employers look for when hiring candidates, and what their day-to-day responsibilities look like.

The panel featured Jasmine Phillips, Lead Prevention Specialist at Meridian Healthcare, and Ridge Awadallah and Alex Sierra-Tirado, co-owners of GOAT Barber Academy.

A big thank you to Jasmine, Ridge, and Alex for taking the time to share their experiences and valuable advice with our students!

A big thank you to the students and staff who stopped by Melnick Hall on Thursday, October 8, to paint and decorate pumpkins for the Mill Creek MetroParks Pumpkin Walk at Twilight 2026, held on Sunday, October 11! We appreciate everyone who took the time to participate and help make this community event special.

We had a great day out at Blooming Crazy last week to celebrate the new community mural by Department of Art • YSU students and faculty! Everyone who came out was able to contribute to the painting of the mural to transform this local space together.

Attendees also got to take part in the "Y and Kind" initiative, part of the national United States of Kindness commemorating America’s 250th anniversary. Community members received YSU kindness cards to write messages of encouragement and share with others. More than 250 acts of kindness have already been logged through the initiative so far!

Join YSU Honors and Blooming Crazy in Boardman for a fun community mural project! We’re inviting members of the community to grab a paintbrush, get creative, and help us create something special together. 🖌️✨

And there’s something for our youngest artists, too! 🖍️Coloring pages will be available for little kids so the whole family can join in on the fun.
