What a fantastic opening reception for the 2026 Summer Exhibitions at the McDonough Museum of Art! ☀

We recently celebrated the opening of five incredible exhibitions, featuring unique works across both traditional and contemporary media. During the reception, Random Acts of Artists also hosted an awards ceremony for their juried exhibition, “Moving Forward, Looking Back”. 👏

It’s almost time! ☀ The new Summer Exhibitions at the McDonough Museum of Art will open tomorrow, May 29th with a reception from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m.

Check out five unique exhibitions, focused on place-based storytelling, community-centered works, and artistry across both traditional and contemporary media.

Earlier this week, we welcomed area art educators to campus for a hands-on screen printing workshop! 🐧

During this professional development session, educators explored the fundamentals of screen printing while creating their own original prints. Participants learned essential techniques, materials, and processes, and discovered practical ways to bring screen printing into their own classrooms.

We loved seeing creativity, collaboration, and fresh inspiration throughout the workshop! 👏

Tomorrow is the final day to explore their inspiring work at the McDonough Museum of Art! The museum is open from 11:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. now through May 2. ✨

For the past two weeks, our students have been showcasing their work in the Junior Portfolio Review Exhibitions across the Solomon Gallery and the Student Project Gallery. 👏

This showcase captures a defining stage of artistic development, as students refine their skills and express their unique creative voices. For many, this is their first time installing work in a professional gallery setting, making it an especially meaningful milestone.

The final week of installations are on display now through May 1. ✨

🎓 Meet Lauren Barrett, the student speaker for our Spring 2026 WCBA & CCCA Commencement!

Lauren Barrett is graduating from Youngstown State University with her BFA in Interdisciplinary Studio Art. Starting this fall, she will study entertainment technology at Carnegie Mellon University. 🐧👏

✨ Last semester, students in YSU’s Mural and Site-Specific Painting class developed individual proposals for potential public mural projects in Youngstown as their final project!

Students created proposals for existing public spaces while following guidelines in site and location research and addressing community needs. Each proposal reflects thoughtful consideration of context, audience, and large-scale visual storytelling in public environments.

While the projects are hypothetical, they demonstrate the power of visual arts in reimagining and reinventing shared public spaces for our communities. 👏

These proposals are currently on display on the 4th flood of Maag Library! 🐧

Our Intro to Digital Media class took creativity beyond the screen by producing custom t-shirts with their original designs! ✨

Guided by Professors Dana Sperry and Joe D’Uva, students explored a hands-on printing process to turn their artwork into wearable pieces.
