Phi Kappa Phi awards lifelong learning through its Love of Learning awards, which help fund post-baccalaureate professional development for active Phi Kappa Phi members to include (but not be limited to): Graduate or professional studies, doctoral dissertations, continuing education, career development, travel related to teaching/research/learning, etc. Six EMU chapter members have received this award in the last decade.

Planning to study abroad? Did you know that any undergraduate, including non-members, can apply for the Phi Kappa Phi Study Abroad award? One hundred twenty-five $1,000 grants are awarded each year.

Each year, the highly competitive Phi Kappa Phi Fellowship competition provides awards to members entering the first year of graduate or professional study who are pursuing post-baccalaureate degrees across all academic disciplines. Through the chapter’s history, 8 EMU students have won a PKP fellowship. In 2023, graduating senior Jacklyn Staffeld won a $8,500 Phi Kappa Fellowship to study behavioral neuroscience at Baylor University.

The EMU Chapter of Phi Kappa Phi is celebrating its 50th anniversary this academic year. Since its installation on September 18, 1973, the chapter has inducted almost 6,000 members. If you take a close look at the charter members, you may notice a couple of familiar names–Dr. Bruce K. Nelson, for whom the EMU Faculty Development Center is named, and Dr. Harold E. Sponberg, former EMU President whose name adorns one of the two theaters on campus.
