“I chose Eastern because of the way I immediately felt like home from the second I walked onto campus for a tour, it immediately felt like that “home away from home” I was looking for! I got drawn to Greek Life and SK because I was looking for not only friends, but mentors to help me.I am so happy I found that through my sisters in Sigma Kappa. Finally A little fun fact about me is I am a tour guide here at EMU!!”

Today we would love to introduce Lydia! Here is a little blurb she wrote to introduce herself:

“Hi! My name is Lydia and I come from Genesee, Michigan! I am a nursing major who wants to be an OR nurse. I loved Eastern’s small town feel, and how supportive I felt like all of the staff were. I’ve always been interested in joining greek life, because I value sisterhood, leadership, and service. From the beginning I loved Sigma Kappa and felt a strong connection to the women in this chapter. I knew that SK was meant for me every step of the way. My feelings about them became even stronger when my RC Chanel ran home with me on bid day. Ever since initiation I have felt nothing but welcomed and loved!”

Walk to End Alzheimer’s 2026 🩵🧡💛💜🤍

Over the weekend, our girls not only walked but stepped up when we were needed most in the rainy weather. From volunteering to face paint and many new memories we are very happy to have been apart of another great event! Memories Matter.

As Hispanic Heritage month comes to a close we want to recognize the importance of this month through the eyes of Yareli and Corina. 🇲🇽🤍

Yareli: “Being a first gen mexican american is something that I have always carried with so much pride in everything I do. My parents have always raised me with the importance of knowing what hard work is, what resilience is and never forgetting where we started.
My heritage has shaped not only with who I am today but also the person I aspire to be.
Being able to embrace my culture and still being embraced by the women around me even if they don’t look or sound like me is truly an experience so special that it only makes the love for myself and my culture grow.
Happy Hispanic heritage month!”

Corina: “As a Mexican American, Hispanic/Latinx Heritage Month is really special to me. It’s a chance to celebrate the culture, traditions, and values that have been a big part of my life and helped shape who I am. I’ve always loved learning more about my roots through my family members, and this month reminds me how proud I am to be connected to my heritage every day.”
