D**g A University Develops Clinical Competence and Professional Ethics through Its University-Hospital Education Model
With its university-hospital education model, state-of-the-art simulation and practice facilities and an extensive network of hospitals and healthcare partners both in Vietnam and abroad, D**g A University is creating a learning environment that enables students in the Health Sciences to develop professional competence through real-world practice while expanding their career pathways after graduation.
Clinical education built on the university-hospital model and advanced practice and simulation systems
In the era of technology and artificial intelligence, healthcare is evolving every day. Medical databases, diagnostic equipment and treatment support technologies are becoming increasingly sophisticated. Yet when caring for patients, the core values of healthcare professionals continue to rest on clinical competence, compassion, responsibility and professional ethics.
The Doctor of Medicine (General Medicine) program at D**g A University is designed in accordance with a competency-based medical education approach. Rather than focusing solely on questions such as "What do students learn?" or "How long do they study?", this educational model places greater emphasis on answering more important questions: "What are graduates able to do after completing the program?" and "Do they possess the practical competencies required for professional practice?"
The University's learner-centered approach to teaching and learning, together with a comprehensive competency-based assessment system implemented throughout the six-year program, helps prepare students to successfully pass the national medical practice licensing examination after graduation.
Within this learning environment, students are trained in clinical procedures, patient care protocols, communication with patients, clinical decision-making, emergency response and patient safety before they begin working with real patients. As a result, learning extends far beyond acquiring theoretical knowledge, it gradually shapes the professionalism, confidence and sense of responsibility expected of future healthcare professionals. Alongside professional training, the University places strong emphasis on English language education, enabling students to access international medical literature from an early stage and broaden their opportunities for global academic exchange.
A key highlight of D**g A University's educational strategy is its university - hospital model, which closely integrates academic training with hospitals and healthcare institutions. The University has signed a strategic cooperation agreement with Hue Central Hospital to jointly develop healthcare professionals while continuing to expand partnerships with major hospitals across Da Nang City.
In particular, under the partnership with Hue Central Hospital, professors, doctors and medical specialists from the hospital participate in curriculum consultation, teaching and professional supervision for Medical students. The two institutions also collaborate in medical education, clinical training, professional development and scientific research. This partnership not only provides students with broader clinical training opportunities but also allows them to gain first-hand experience in a leading tertiary referral hospital, working alongside distinguished clinical experts and encountering a wide variety of medical cases.
Professor, MD, PhD Pham Nhu Hiep, Director of Hue Central Hospital, shared: "With approximately 5,000 hospital beds, Hue Central Hospital is among the largest hospitals in Vietnam. This provides an excellent environment for students to participate in clinical practice and patient care. Combining classroom learning with hands-on clinical experience is the most effective pathway for students to acquire knowledge and achieve professional success."
In addition, D**g A University is currently training General Medicine students from India. The entire program is delivered in English, allowing Vietnamese students to study alongside their Indian peers in English-medium classes. This provides an excellent opportunity for students from both countries to engage in cross-cultural exchange while strengthening their English language proficiency.
Built upon the university–hospital education model, advanced practice and simulation facilities and a strong commitment to international integration, each discipline within D**g A University's Health Sciences cluster is developed with a distinct professional orientation. Despite their different specializations, all programs share a common goal: to educate healthcare professionals who possess solid professional competence, practical skills, strong ethical values and the adaptability required to meet the evolving demands of modern medicine.
The General Medicine program focuses on developing clinical competence, diagnostic and therapeutic thinking, the application of medical technologies and the professional ethics expected of physicians. The Pharmacy program equips students with competencies in pharmaceutical research, drug manufacturing, quality control, clinical pharmacy and the safe and rational use of medications through professional consultation. The Nursing and Midwifery programs emphasize patient care skills, effective communication, patient safety, hospital-based practice and preparation for international professional integration. The Rehabilitation Engineering program is designed to meet the growing demand for rehabilitation services, post-treatment care, elderly care, sports medicine and other high-quality healthcare services.
International partnerships create pathways for internships and global careers
While the university–hospital model enables Health Sciences students to build strong clinical competence and cultivate professional ethics, the University's extensive partnerships with international hospitals and healthcare organizations further broaden career opportunities after graduation.
Since 2019, the partnership between D**g A University and the Aijinkai Social Medical Corporation has created a clear pathway for Nursing students to undertake professional internships and pursue careers in Japan. Over the past eight cohorts, more than 200 D**g A University students have participated, are currently participating, or are scheduled to participate in internship programs across Aijinkai's healthcare facilities. Each year, 50–70% of students return to Japan for long-term employment after completing their internships.
Building on this partnership, D**g A University and Kameda Social Medical Corporation have also implemented a student exchange program following the signing of their official cooperation agreement in 2018. To date, 58 students from the first five cohorts have completed the program and are now working at healthcare facilities within the Kameda network, while 10 students from subsequent cohorts are continuing to pursue this career pathway.
In addition to its partnerships with Aijinkai Social Medical Corporation and Kameda Social Medical Corporation, D**g A University has established collaborative relationships with the Ageo Central Medical Group, the Tokushukai Medical Group and other healthcare organizations in Japan. These partnerships provide students, particularly those majoring in Nursing, with valuable opportunities to experience advanced healthcare systems, patient-centered care practices and professional working environments in one of the world's leading healthcare sectors.
The University's international outlook is not limited to overseas opportunities. Partnerships with Sun Wellbeing (a member of the Kameda Medical Group) and Mediva in developing Japanese-standard clinics in Vietnam also enable students to gain international working experience without leaving the country. This is a particularly promising direction as demand continues to grow for high-quality healthcare services, elderly care, rehabilitation and compassionate, patient-centered medical services.
The integration of the university-hospital education model, competency-based clinical training, modern medical technologies and international collaboration provides students with a wide range of career opportunities after graduation. Graduates are not only well prepared to pursue careers in hospitals, healthcare institutions and medical service providers across Vietnam, but also have opportunities to continue their studies, undertake internships and work in many countries around the world.
