🇬🇧 MEET THE UK SKILLS MINISTER | A TALK ON SKILLS AND EMPLOYABILITY

What skills will young people need to thrive in a rapidly changing world? 🌏💡

Foreign Trade University is pleased to welcome The Rt Hon Baroness Smith of Malvern, Minister of State for Skills at the UK Department for Education, to FTU for a special talk with our students.

With a focus on Skills and Employability, the session will explore the changing world of work and the opportunities and challenges facing today’s students - from the rise of Artificial Intelligence, automation and digital technologies to the growing importance of critical thinking, communication, creativity, leadership, teamwork and adaptability.

The discussion will also highlight the strong and growing UK–Viet Nam education partnership, including the role of education in connecting our two countries through people, knowledge, innovation and opportunity. Baroness Smith will also recognise FTU’s partnerships with UK universities, including the University of Northampton, University of Bedfordshire and University of the West of England, which provide students with opportunities to gain internationally recognised qualifications and develop global perspectives while studying in Viet Nam.

Most importantly, the session will invite students to think about their own future: How can we embrace AI rather than fear it? What skills will remain essential in the future workplace? And how can our education contribute to the prosperity and sustainability of Viet Nam and the wider world?

🌏 INTERNATIONAL DAY 2026 | WHEN FTU BECOMES A HOME FOR THE WORLD

On 2 October 2026, the campus of Foreign Trade University (FTU) came alive as a vibrant space for cultural exchange through International Day 2026, bringing together nearly 700 Vietnamese and international students at FTU.

From traditional games and international food booths to cultural performances and fashion showcases representing 18 countries around the world, International Day offered students an opportunity to discover and experience cultural diversity right here on campus. 🌏✨

From every game played to every dish shared and every performance presented, each moment became a bridge connecting Vietnamese and international students. Without having to travel far, students could meet the world right here at FTU — experiencing, learning, and creating memories together. 🤝

But International Day is more than a cultural celebration. It is also a concrete reflection of FTU’s commitment to the internationalisation of education, contributing to the development of an “Internationalization at Home” (IaH) environment and the “Campus-in-Campus” (CiC) model.

Through these approaches, FTU seeks to create a vibrant international learning environment where Vietnamese and international students can learn from one another, exchange perspectives, and experience different cultures together.

Internationalisation is not only about sending students abroad — it is also about bringing international experiences into students’ everyday learning environment. FTU will continue to bring the world to us — right here on campus, in the classroom, and through students’ everyday learning experiences. 🌏❤️

Thanks to the kind support of the New Zealand Embassy in Viet Nam, a limited number of complimentary tickets are available for FTU students to attend “A Musical Journey”, a classical piano concert featuring pianist Nizar Elkhater.
The programme will take audiences on a musical journey through works by Isaac Albéniz, Pietro Mascagni, Georges Bizet, as well as original and arranged pieces by Nizar Elkhater.

WHEN VIETNAMESE BECOMES A BRIDGE TO GLOBAL CULTURE! 🌏

Does learning a new language ever stop at the textbook? At Foreign Trade University (FTU), the answer is a definite NO!

For nearly 60 students from Nanning Vocational and Technical College (China), their 5-month journey learning Vietnamese at FTU promises to be a colorful film of discovery, hands-on experience, and cross-cultural connection.

🎉 Orientation Day on 7 September 2026 broke down every barrier from day one. The warm welcome from FTU Buddies helped the Chinese students quickly feel at home in the FTU family. From that moment on, Vietnamese wasn't just a subject to study — it became the language of friendship!

🏭 Stepping outside the classroom, the delegation took a field trip to Hai Ha Industrial Park (Quang Ninh) on 17 September 2026. More than just theory, students got to see firsthand the vibrant world of manufacturing, business, and investment in Vietnam!

🌍 No need to travel far — a multicultural space already exists right here at FTU. Through the "Campus-in-Campus" model, Vietnamese and international students come together to connect, exchange knowledge, and share global perspectives.

✨ The 5-month journey is still unfolding, with plenty of surprises and experiences ahead. Stay tuned and keep cheering on our Chinese students as they continue their amazing journey at FTU!

BRIDGING KNOWLEDGE, BRIDGING CULTURES: AN UNFORGETTABLE JOURNEY FOR ZHEJIANG INTERNATIONAL STUDIES UNIVERSITY STUDENTS AT FTU 🌏

In the journey of internationalizing higher education, every space for academic exchange and hands-on experience becomes a quiet but powerful bridge connecting knowledge and culture across nations. From 26 August to 1 September 2026, Foreign Trade University (FTU) proudly welcomed a delegation from Zhejiang International Studies University, China, as part of the "2026 Student International Exchange Grant Program in Vietnam." Seven days — short in time, yet rich enough to open doors to boundless knowledge and deepen a lasting partnership between the two universities.

📚 From the very first steps on FTU's campus, the Zhejiang delegation was immersed in the dynamic pulse of Vietnam's economy through a series of high-quality academic activities. The journey kicked off with the lecture "Vietnam at a Glance," painting a vivid picture of the country, its culture and its people, before continuing with a hands-on visit to Kirin Capital, a trusted financial firm specializing in equity investment management. Deeper, multidimensional insights into Vietnam's investment landscape followed through a sharing session with a Chinese enterprise operating in Vietnam, alongside a specialized economics lecture delivered by a representative from the Ministry of Industry and Trade.

🤖 Rising above the scope of an ordinary exchange program, the true academic highlight of the journey was the international forum "Humanistic Thinking in the AI Era" — a major event co-organized by FTU and Tsinghua University, China. As official delegates, students and faculty from Zhejiang International Studies University joined scholars and students from FTU and Tsinghua in thoughtful discussion and debate on humanistic values amid the rise of artificial intelligence, creating a space that was both intellectually rich and deeply of-the-moment.

🎨 If knowledge marked the beginning, culture became the thread that tied it all together. With the warm companionship of FTU's Chinese Club members, Zhejiang students dove into an immersive Vietnamese experience — from a crash-course Vietnamese class to hand-painting traditional nón lá and mixing up plates of bánh tráng trộn together. The journey came full circle with a City Tour through the timeless streets of Hanoi and a breathtaking excursion to Ha Long Bay, turning natural wonders into memories that will last a lifetime.

🌟 The "2026 Student International Exchange Grant Program in Vietnam" once again affirms FTU's commitment to bringing "Internationalization at Home" to life. Beyond offering international students the chance to discover Vietnam, the program also brings global perspectives closer to FTU students, nurturing a spirit of learning within a truly multicultural campus. Seven days have come to a close, but the connections, friendships, and cooperation between Foreign Trade University and Zhejiang International Studies University will continue to grow and flourish in the journeys ahead.

Applications are now open for the Young Southeast Asian Leaders Initiative Academic Fellows Program (YSEALI AFP) — a five-week academic exchange in the U.S. Fellows will take part in academic study, community service, and field experiences at one of eight U.S. host institutions.

Vietnamese citizens and residents aged 18–25 who are current undergraduate students or recent graduates and proficient in English.

🇯🇵 RITSUMEIKAN UNIVERSITY × FTU: A JOURNEY OF LEARNING AND EXCHANGE

Over the past week, students from Ritsumeikan University, Japan, joined Foreign Trade University for a short programme combining field research, academic exploration and student exchange. 📚🌏

As part of FTU’s ongoing efforts to promote the internationalisation of education and create more opportunities for international exchange on campus, the programme brought students from both universities together to learn from one another and explore Vietnam through different perspectives.

Through visits to Hanoi’s Old Quarter, museums and university campuses, the students gathered observations for group research projects on education, environmental issues, tourism and international affairs.

The programme concluded with a Presentation and Exchange Session on 15 September. More than 30 FTU students joined the session, asking questions, exchanging ideas and sharing their perspectives during the Q&A. 🤝

It was a meaningful week of discovering Hanoi, learning about Vietnam and connecting with fellow students through academic and cultural exchange.

Thank you to the students from Ritsumeikan University and FTU for making this programme a memorable experience. Hope to see you again soon! 🇯🇵🇻🇳
