โ€œWhat Do We Remember: Endless Summerโ€ is a multimedia exhibition by young creative practitioners from RMIT Vietnam, co-produced with CABE Studio. Originating from the narrative of collective memory within K-12 school environments, the exhibition reflects on memories of school, childhood, and summerโ€”where personal recollections gradually intersect with the shared images and experiences of a generation.

We often think of memory as something that happened and was preserved. But does memory ever truly stand still? โ€œWhat Do We Remember: Endless Summerโ€ returns to the foundational memory zones of each individual, particularly those formed during school years. A summer, a classroom, a schoolyard, or the sound of a drumbeat. These images may differ greatly for each person, yet they can also feel so familiar that we no longer know what we actually remember and what we have learned to remember.

16 practitioners represent 16 journeys connecting fading memories while questioning how an individual's memory links to the collective memory of a generation.

๐Ÿซก ๐ŸŒŽ Students from SOCU2265 Language in the Global Workplace joined a workshop and training session focusing on language use and the management of negative feedback in professional and intercultural contexts.

The students had a particularly active role in the session, acting as translators and interpreters during the workshop. This allowed them to directly experience the challenges of facilitating communication across languages and cultures in a real professional environment.

They were also able to observe how negative feedback is communicated and managed in the workplace and apply core concepts from the course to an authentic professional context. The activity therefore provided an opportunity to move beyond theory and directly experience how language, translation, interpretation, intercultural communication and workplace practices intersect.

It was a great opportunity to strengthen our industry engagement with AMANA Hotel Group while providing students with a meaningful and authentic WIL experience.

About the Symposium

The Weight of Mountains (TWOM) Film Symposium 2026 is an international academic symposium in film and media studies focusing on Vietnamese and Southeast Asian screen cultures and the relationships between cinema, place, memory, environment, and social transformation.

Co-hosted by RMIT University Vietnam and Fulbright University Vietnam, the symposium welcomes contributions from scholars, researchers, and media practitioners engaging with questions of screen cultures, environmental change, urban transformation, cultural memory, and contested histories across Vietnam and the wider Southeast Asian region.
Organised alongside the fourth iteration of The Weight of Mountains international film residency, the symposium brings together perspectives from film and media studies, environmental humanities, postcolonial studies, and speculative fiction to examine how cinema can respond to changing environments, histories, and ways of inhabiting place.
