‎"𝐄𝐦𝐩𝐨𝐰𝐞𝐫𝐞𝐝 𝐖𝐨𝐦𝐞𝐧, 𝐄𝐦𝐩𝐨𝐰𝐞𝐫 𝐖𝐨𝐦𝐞𝐧" ✨💜

‎This National Women's Month, we celebrate the strength, resilience, and achievements of women from all walks of life. From breaking barriers in leadership and innovation to shaping communities with compassion and determination, women continue to inspire change and progress.

‎Let’s honor the struggles of those who fought for gender equality and uplift those who continue the journey today. May we support, amplify, and stand together for a future where every woman and girl is free to dream, lead, and thrive—without limits.

‎The 𝑲𝒂𝒑𝒊𝒔𝒂𝒏𝒂𝒏 𝒏𝒈 𝒎𝒈𝒂 𝑬𝒔𝒕𝒖𝒅𝒚𝒂𝒏𝒕𝒆 𝑺𝒂 𝑨𝒓𝒂𝒍𝒊𝒏𝒈 𝑷𝒂𝒏𝒍𝒊𝒑𝒖𝒏𝒂𝒏 (KESAP) proudly joins the nation in recognizing the immeasurable contributions of women in shaping our society. On February 25, 1986, President Corazon C. Aquino was sworn in as President of the Philippines, marking the country's "longest day" as it started with virtually no president and had two presidents by noon. Cory, the self-proclaimed "plain housewife" of former Senator Benigno Aquino Jr., was assassinated on August 21, 1983, upon returning to the Philippines after his exile in the United States. This tragic event united the opposition against the authoritarian Marcos regime, leading to a snap election on February 7, 1986.

The Commission on Elections declared Marcos the victor, but the National Citizen's Movement for Free Elections (Namfrel), an election watchdog funded by the US government, claimed Aquino was the real winner. The Marcos family boarded US Air Force rescue helicopters at midnight and flew to Clark Air Base in Angeles City, Andersen Air Force Base in Guam, and Hickam Air Force Base in Hawaii, giving way to the Aquino presidency.

Aquino finished her term on June 30, 1992, and returned to private life, but remained active in the public eye, constantly voicing her views on pressing political issues. Marcos stayed in Hawaii until his death in 1989, while Aquino died of colon cancer on August 1, 2009, at the age of 76.

𝑱𝒐𝒔𝒆 𝑨𝒃𝒂𝒅 𝑺𝒂𝒏𝒕𝒐𝒔 𝒚 𝑩𝒂𝒔𝒄𝒐, the fifth Chief Justice of the Supreme Court, was born in 1886 in San Fernando, Pampanga. He was known for his simple lifestyle and avoiding corruption. He became Chief Justice in 1941, accompanied the Commonwealth government to Corregidor, and assisted in the destruction of Commonwealth government currency.

When President Quezon left for the United States via Australia, Abad Santos chose to remain in the Philippines. However, Japanese soldiers captured him and his son Pepito in Cebu, demanding allegiance to the Japanese flag. Abad Santos bravely refused to be a traitor and was sentenced to death for his refusal to cooperate with the enemy.

He was brought to Malabang, Lanao, with his son Pepito. Before his death, Abad Santos spoke to his son Jose Jr., urging him to show courage and honor to die for his country.

What an amazing day it was at 𝑷𝑺𝑼 𝑺𝒂𝒏 𝑪𝒂𝒓𝒍𝒐𝒔 𝑪𝒂𝒎𝒑𝒖𝒔 as we celebrated 𝐕𝐚𝐥𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐞’𝐬 𝐃𝐚𝐲 with love and happiness. PSUnians made the event special by participating with so much energy and creativity. From the fun "𝑾𝒆𝒂𝒓 𝒀𝒐𝒖𝒓 𝑺𝒕𝒂𝒕𝒖𝒔" outfits to the colorful "𝑺𝒕𝒓𝒊𝒏𝒈𝒔 𝒐𝒇 𝑭𝒂𝒊𝒕𝒉" that brought us all together, the "𝑺𝒖𝒍𝒂𝒕 𝑳𝒊𝒉𝒂𝒎" letters allowed everyone to share special messages and express their feelings with someone, along with the "𝑴𝒂𝒕𝒄𝒉 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝑯𝒆𝒂𝒓𝒕𝒔" activity that helped us connect with others. Even the playful "𝑯𝒆𝒂𝒓𝒕𝒃𝒓𝒆𝒂𝒌 𝑪𝒐𝒓𝒏𝒆𝒓" added a fun twist to the day!

The day was more than just an event. It gave us a chance to connect with others and have fun. Everyone enjoyed the day and created many great memories. Once again, 𝐇𝐀𝐏𝐏𝐘 𝐕𝐀𝐋𝐄𝐍𝐓𝐈𝐍𝐄'𝐒 𝐃𝐀𝐘, 𝐏𝐒𝐔𝐧𝐢𝐚𝐧𝐬!

The Rescission Act of 1946 was a US Congress appropriations measure that authorized $200 million to the Commonwealth Army of the Philippines, a military that had been severely weakened by three years of war with Japan. The bill was named after a legislative rider that rescinded the Executive Order signed by President Franklin D. Roosevelt in 1941, which promised full U.S. veterans' benefits. Over 100,000 Filipinos enlisted in the Philippine Commonwealth Army and were sworn in as members of the United States Armed Forces.

Senator Carl Hayden and Senator Richard Russel sought information from the Veterans Administration about the potential cost of their veterans' benefits. General Omar Bradley, Secretary of the U.S. Veterans Administration, wrote that Filipinos who served in the Philippine Commonwealth Army and their dependents were entitled to receive about $3 billion in benefits.

Senator Hayden and Russel moved to substantially reduce U.S. military aid to the Philippines by passing the first Rescission Act in January 1946, but it was promptly vetoed by President Harry Truman. Philippine Commonwealth President Sergio Osmena expressed his elation at the veto, stating that members of the Philippine Army would unjustly be deprived of the benefits of federal laws currently available to them by virtue of their service with the military and naval forces of the United States.
