Finding a student job in the Netherlands can be done in a few different ways:

• Check job boards: There are several online job boards specifically for student jobs in the Netherlands. Some popular ones include StudentenWerk, YoungCapital, and Indeed.
• Use university resources: Many universities in the Netherlands have a career center or job board that lists available part-time jobs for students. Check with your university to see what resources they offer.
• Networking: Connect with other students, professors, or local businesses to see if they know of any job opportunities. Networking can be a powerful tool for finding a job, especially in a smaller community.
• Approach companies directly: If there are companies in your field of interest that you would like to work for, reach out to them directly and inquire about any available positions. This shows initiative and may help you stand out from other applicants.
• Apply for student jobs through staffing agencies: Many staffing agencies specialize in placing students in part-time or temporary jobs. Some popular ones in the Netherlands include Randstad, Manpower, and Adecco.

Remember to have a strong resume and cover letter, and be prepared for interviews. Good luck with your job search!

Studying in the Netherlands can be a great experience, but there are a few things you should know before you go. Here are some important things to consider:

• Visa and Residency: Citizens of the EU, the EEA, and Switzerland do not need a student visa or resident permit to enter the Netherlands. However, if you plan to stay long-term, you must register with the municipality as soon as possible after you have arrived. If you are a non-EU/EEA/Swiss citizen, you will need a student visa and/or a residence permit to study in the Netherlands. Make sure to check the specific requirements for your country and apply early.
• Language: While many Dutch people speak English fluently, it can still be useful to learn some basic Dutch phrases to help you navigate day-to-day life in the Netherlands.
• Housing: Finding affordable housing can be challenging, especially in popular student cities like Amsterdam and Utrecht. Start looking for housing early and be prepared to pay a deposit and/or agency fees.
• Health Insurance: International students are required to have health insurance in the Netherlands. Make sure to research your options and enroll in a plan that meets your needs.
• Culture Shock: Moving to a new country can be a big adjustment. Take some time to learn about Dutch culture and customs before you go, and be prepared for some culture shock.
• Biking: The Netherlands is known for its bike-friendly culture, and many students choose to bike as their main mode of transportation. Make sure to familiarize yourself with the rules of the road and invest in a good lock for your bike.
• Student Life: Dutch universities are known for their social and inclusive student communities. Take advantage of student organizations and events to meet new people and make friends.

Overall, studying in the Netherlands can be a fantastic experience, but it's important to do your research and be prepared for the challenges and opportunities that come with living in a new country.

Groningen is internationally known for its high-quality educational institutions. It is home to both the University of Groningen and the Hanze University of Applied Sciences Groningen. The city is located in the north of the Netherlands, approximately 2 ½ hours from Amsterdam airport by train. Groningen has around 200,000 inhabitants and around 50,000 of them are students. Groningen is famous within the Netherlands for being a student town. It is perhaps most famous internationally as “World Cycling City”, the only place in the world where as many as 57% of all journeys are made by bicycle. The centre of Groningen is completely closed off to cars making for a very different atmosphere to most Dutch cities.

Groningen is very safe and its inhabitants are the happiest in the Netherlands in terms of the facilities and amenities available to them. The presence of so many students in Groningen makes it one of the most culturally diverse cities in the whole of the Netherlands.

The two universities are central to Groningen’s importance (Rijksuniversiteit Groningen was founded in 1614) and are also the main reason for its reputation for raucous, student-centred nightlife. So, if you would like to go abroad but don’t want to miss out on the student experience, Groningen might be the place for you.

If English is the language of the study program/course you will be studying in Europe, you will be required to prove you have a sufficient level of knowledge of English in order for your application to be accepted.

Although the expected level of command of English may vary depending on the school and, above all, the study program or course, the usual average English language requirement you will be required to have to study in Europe is 550 - 587 points (paper-based TOEFL test), or 213 - 240 points (computer-based TOEFL test), or 79 - 95 points (Internet-based TOEFL test), or 6.5 - 7.0 score in the IELTS test.
If you have not taken either the TOEFL or IELTS tests and you would like to prove your level of knowledge of English with other exams, you will need to prove you have a level of command of English corresponding to the B1/B2 level (intermediate) according to the European language passport. The more competitive a course or study program is, the higher the level of knowledge of English will be.

Don’t meet the minimum English language requirement? You should always contact the course or program coordinator before you decide not to apply for it. In some cases, schools may be flexible with the language requirement and you may be allowed to improve your language skills while studying your course.

There are lots of student cities in the Netherlands. And, as the Dutch are among the best English speakers, outside of their native countries, it’s the perfect country for internationals.

Due to the dramatic shortage of student housing in the Netherlands, international students should apply for a house or room as soon as possible. Here are some tips on how to find student accommodation in the Netherlands:

• University housing
• Student housing corporations
• Rental housing agencies
• Internet & social media
• Anti-squatting
• Short stay student accommodation
• Student associations and societies

💡 💡 💡
• If you are going to a viewing, try to take a friend with you. Not just for safety, but also because two pairs of eyes are better than one.
• Never sign a rental contract without reading it.
• Don’t pay anything until you have a signed contract. There are a lot of scammers out there, and they often target (international) students.
