It is going to be FRIGID tonight!!!!! Especially since we have already had some very big clearing as the system came and departed quickly. This freshly fallen snow is going to reflect all radiation back out from Earth tonight and it is going to plummet. Btw, JMU received around 4" it seems. Dry air was brought into the storm, likely because of how strong the winds were pushing the storm into and out of the area

Alright guys. Storm mode!!! Let's get the winter storm conversation going!! Here is a dense but awesome example of 'meteorology talk'. Its a discussion produced by the National Weather Service in Blacksburg, VA (Virginia Tech land). Calls for THUNDERSNOW southeast of Richmond tonight!!! (At least I think that is what it says.....)http://www.nws.noaa.gov/view/prodsByState.php?state=va&prodtype=discussion

Well, if you are still awake, look outside! Its raining. Not too hard and its not very windy. But, this is the cold front passing through! Things appear severe north of us, apart of the same line

Take a look at the line of storms racing through West Virginia and being propagated east ward from a spinning low centered over Michigan! I think we will get a period of gusty winds, I just dont know how strong, but not as strong as they are in WV. But, just two counties west of us, there are severe thunderstorm warnings for winds of 60 mph+. Active night! http://www.intellicast.com/National/Radar/Current.aspx?animate=true

The Current Radar map shows areas of current precipitation. A weather radar is used to locate precipitation, calculate its motion, estimate its type (rain, snow, hail, etc.), and forecast its future position and intensity. Modern weather radars are mostly doppler radars, capable of detecting the mot...

Happy Halloween, everyone!!!!

There is a meeting tonight from 6-7 in Taylor 309!
Even if not for the whole meeting, come on out!

The weather is spooky out there today, isn't it? Let's figure out WHY and what it means!
Following, we can go to Carrier to warm up with some Starbucks if everyone is down!

See you there!

Hey, look at this! You can clearly see the Bermuda High spinning clockwise over the Atlantic and the plume of humid air mass from the Gulf sending heavy downpours to Tennessee, Kentucky, Georgia, etc. with flash flood watches. This is a visible satellite loop by NOAA http://www.ssd.noaa.gov/goes/east/eaus/flash-vis.html

This loop intended for informational purposes only! For Emergency situations and/or decisions, please refer to your local Emergency Management Office.Additional Flash Information

Dew point in the 60s and quite a bit of sun light already received, I think there is a chance for storms today in Harrisonburg! Not showers, like the National Weather Service says
