May 12, 2026 โA ceremonial turnover of funds was successfully held at the Municipal Hall of San Francisco, marking another milestone in advancing science, technology, and innovation driven community development initiatives in the municipality.
A total of PHP 700,000 was officially turned over to the Local Government Unit (LGU) of San Francisco to support the implementation of two significant projects aimed at strengthening sustainable livelihoods, disaster preparedness, nutrition, and community resilience.
The funding will support the implementation of the GIA Project entitled โSTI-Based Intervention for the Adoption of Squid Drying Technology toward Sustainable Livelihood Development in San Francisco, Southern Leyte.โ The project seeks to provide local fisherfolk and communities with improved squid drying technology to enhance product quality, increase productivity, and promote sustainable livelihood opportunities.
Also funded is the CEST Project entitled โBANtayan: Building Adaptive Nutrition and Technology for Resilience in San Francisco, Southern Leyte: Empowering Communities through Tech-Driven Disaster Preparedness, Food Innovation, and Capacity-Building.โ The initiative aims to empower communities through innovative approaches in disaster preparedness, food innovation, nutrition, and capacity-building activities.
Present during the ceremonial turnover were Jason Ortizo, Municipal Mayor of LGU San Francisco; Ramil Uy, Provincial Director of PSTO Southern Leyte; members of the Pinamudlan Fisherfolk Association and Pasanon Womenโs Association; as well as personnel from LGU San Francisco and PSTO Southern Leyte.
In his message, Mayor Ortizo expressed his gratitude to the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) for the funding support extended to the municipality. He emphasized the importance of the projects in improving the lives of the beneficiaries and strengthening community development initiatives in San Francisco. Meanwhile, Dr. Uy encouraged the implementing personnel and partner associations to effectively carry out the projects to ensure their success and sustainability. He also shared that successful implementation could open more opportunities for future projects and continued support for the municipality.
Representatives from the beneficiary associations also expressed their gratitude and commitment to the implementation of the projects. Ms. Remy Lozano, President of the Pasanon Womenโs Association, emphasized their full commitment to making the project successful. She shared that the association will continue to uphold the โ4Psโ that guide their initiatives: Paglaum, Pag-atiman, Pagpalambo, and Paglahutayโvalues that reflect hope, care, development, and perseverance.
As the projects move forward, the partnership between PSTO Southern Leyte, LGU San Francisco, and the beneficiary associations is expected to further strengthen community empowerment and sustainable development efforts in the municipality.
