The Universiti Putra Malaysia Music Department was delighted to host the “Legacy Tour: Meet the Experts” session, presented in collaboration with Kakiseni as part of the outreach programme of the BOH Cameronian Arts Awards.

The round-table discussion was moderated by our Head of Department, Dr. Ang Mei Foong, a past recipient of the BOH Cameronian Arts Awards. Joining the panel was our own young lecturer and award recipient, Dr. Bernard Tan, alongside industry leaders Ian Chow from The Kuala Lumpur Performing Arts Centre and Danny Chen from Kuala Lumpur City Opera.

Together, the speakers shared candid insights into the realities of building careers in the performing arts — from navigating different industry pathways to developing resilience and adaptability in an evolving arts ecosystem. Students also had the opportunity to engage directly with the panelists through an open discussion, gaining valuable perspectives on the many possibilities within the music profession.

We are grateful to Kakiseni for bringing this meaningful legacy initiative to our campus, creating an inspiring platform where students can connect with leading practitioners and better envision their future in the arts.

We are deeply honoured to share that we have recently received newly published music scores written by Bapa Muzik Malaysia, Allahyarham Tan Sri Dr. Ahmad Nawab, handed over by Tan Sri's family.

Tan Sri Dr. Ahmad Nawab was a towering figure in the Malaysian music industry. With a career spanning decades, he composed and arranged more than 2,000 songs, shaping the golden era of Malaysian popular music. His works transcended generations, blending artistry, cultural identity, and musical excellence. He was not only a prolific composer and arranger, but also a visionary who elevated Malaysian music onto the international stage.

To receive these newly published scores is truly significant. It is more than a collection of music, it is a preservation of national heritage. Having access to his written scores allows students, educators, performers, and researchers to study his craftsmanship, orchestration, and musical language in its authentic form. This is an invaluable resource for the continued growth of Malaysian music scholarship and performance practice.

We are grateful for the opportunity to preserve, study, and bring these masterpieces to life for future generations.

May the legacy of Allahyarham Tan Sri Dr. Ahmad Nawab continue to inspire and resonate in our hearts and concert halls for years to come.
