Over 8 days of intensive professional development, the Community Development Foundation (formerly known as ITREB) Master Trainers Certification in Karachi brought together 25 educators for a powerful journey of reflection, learning, and growth.

Guided by renowned facilitators including senior faculty members from AKU-IED and CDF and other notable external trainers, the programme was designed with the idea to strengthen educator capacity in the IIS Ta’lim curriculum and contemporary pedagogical practices.

The programme introduced participants to diverse topics such as:

• Philosophy of Religious Education
• Constructivist, cognitive & adaptive teaching approaches
• Social-emotional learning, neurodiversity & inclusive classrooms
• Curriculum design, spiral progression & lesson planning
• Assessment strategies & reflective practice
• Contemporary global challenges, climate change & diverse expressions of faith

Through a blend of interactive sessions, critical dialogue, and practicum-based learning, participants explored how to create holistic, engaging, and contextually relevant learning experiences for today’s learners.

This marks an important step towards building a strong network of Master Trainers equipped to lead, mentor, and inspire educators across regions in their respective education centres.

Dr. Rabia Nauman represented Aga Khan University – Institute for Educational Development at the Association for Moral Education (AME) 2026 Conference held in Madrid, Spain, from 12–14 June 2026. Centered on the theme “Re-Creating the Social Fabric in a Fragmented World: Education for Shared Responsibility.”

The conference brought together scholars, researchers, and practitioners from across the globe to engage in dialogue on pressing moral and educational challenges.

Aligned with her research interests and scholarly contributions in moral education, Dr. Nauman presented a research paper and chaired one of the conference sessions, contributing to international conversations on education, ethics, and social responsibility.

From the summer-migratory Tickle Thrush nesting in walnut trees to the Mistle Thrush pollinating vital juniper plants, this guide explores their behaviors, habitats, and distinct Khowar names.

AKU-IED collaborated with MSB – BadriSchool to deliver a Subject-Specific Teacher Training Programme for primary school teachers from June 1 – 6, 2026.

The training focused on strengthening teaching practices in English, Mathematics, Science, Social Studies (with a special emphasis on map-reading skills), and Urdu. Through interactive sessions, hands-on demonstrations, sample lesson plans, and practical classroom activities, participants enhanced their subject-specific competencies across three key areas: methodology, assessment strategies, and classroom practices.

By the end of the training programme, teachers were equipped to:
- Use child-friendly, activity-based, and play-based teaching approaches
- Apply effective modelling and scaffolding techniques to support young learners
- Design lesson plans with clear, age-appropriate learning outcomes
- Use formative assessment strategies to monitor and support student learning
- Integrate modern educational technologies and digital tools to enhance teaching effectiveness and student engagement
- Create engaging, resource-rich classroom environments that encourage active participation

One Planet. One Climate. Your Shot.

We are thrilled to share a glimpse into the Climate Photography Competition and Exhibition held at the Fankari Art Gallery, AKU-IED! Organized in celebration of World Environment Day 2026, this visual showcase brought our community together to reflect on this year’s global theme: Climate Action ( ).

The exhibition features the top 33 photographs selected from across AKU’s campuses in Pakistan and East Africa. Through these powerful lenses, our community reminded us that climate change is not just an environmental issue—it is a deeply human story woven into our lives, health, and shared future.

A massive congratulations and thank you to all the winners and participants! Your remarkable creativity has inspired us to reflect more deeply on our relationship with the planet and the urgency of collective climate action.

We also extend our sincere gratitude to the Office of Environment & Sustainability, the Office of Student Affairs, the Fankari Team, and the dedicated organizing committees and staff whose seamless collaboration and behind-the-scenes efforts brought this beautiful exhibition to life.

An inspiring documentary of a journey from awareness to action, Climate Action Fellowship 2024 brought together passionate educators from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa to inspire local solutions for a changing climate. Funded by the U.S. Mission in Pakistan and implemented by the Aga Khan University Institute for Educational Development (AKU-IED), the fellowship became a journey of learning, leadership, and creating impact for a more resilient future.

Through in-person workshops, local actions, ongoing mentorship, and regional and national policy dialogues, fellows strengthened their knowledge, exchanged ideas, and translated climate learning into meaningful local action.
Fifty inspiring fellows carried out diverse climate actions, ranging from establishing school nurseries and reducing plastic waste to introducing composting in schools, promoting alternatives to the use of cow dung, discouraging slingshot use and bird hunting, writing EPR-based letters to companies, organizing local market and site clean-up campaigns, conducting plantation drives, and rewilding gardens, among many other initiatives.

It has been more than a year since we concluded the fellowship. As we launch our documentary on World Environment Day 2026, we reflect on this journey with pride and remain inspired by the collective action, leadership, and commitment demonstrated by our fellows toward building a more resilient and sustainable future.
