Building Tech Bridges Across Africa: In Conversation with Namhla Lingela! 💻✨

We recently caught up with Namhla Lingela to hear all about her journey representing Nelson Mandela University at the University of Ghana and forging lasting connections across the continent.

Here are the key takeaways from our Q&A:
1. How was the experience and what did you learn? 🤝✨
"Honestly one of the best experiences I've had first time on Ghanaian soil, and getting to sit in a room with students from another country tackling the same problems we are back home hit different. What stood out most was how similar the challenges are across the continent—AI policy lagging behind innovation, and the mental health/psychology side of AI that nobody's really talking about enough. It also showed me how much power there is when African students build these cross-border conversations ourselves instead of waiting for it to be handed to us. Left with way more confidence in where I want to take my work in cybersecurity and AI."
2. What does "Digital Ubuntu" mean to you in an increasingly connected world? 🌐💼
"Ubuntu in cybersecurity is 'I am secure because we are secure.' Security isn't a solo game—a vulnerability in one system, one company, or one country's infrastructure ripples out and affects everyone connected to it.

🌍 Cross-Border Tech, Live Hacks & Digital Ubuntu: In Conversation with Katlego Molotsi! 💻✨
We recently caught up with Katlego Molotsi to unpack his experience of running cybersecurity workshops at the University of Ghana and how we build lasting tech bridges across Africa.

Here are the key takeaways from our Q&A🤗🤭

1. How was the experience and what did you learn?🤝
"I’m grateful for the chance to see where other students are on their journey with cybersecurity and AI.”
Beyond the classroom, Katlego connected with local innovators like Wilfred, a student at the University of Ghana who is currently developing an AI model to detect breast cancer from tissue imagery. Proof of the incredible impact African youth are making with emerging technology! 💡

2. What Does Ubuntu Look Like in Cybersecurity? 🛡️
For Katlego, "I am because we are" isn't just a phrase, it’s a digital responsibility:
"I can keep myself safe online, but if I stay quiet and don't educate others, it defeats the purpose of Ubuntu. We have to be the ones to blow the whistle, teach polite and responsible tech use, and ensure technology protects people rather than hurting them."

A Huge congratulations to Zizipho Dweba for representing Nelson Mandela University at the inaugural Digital Ubuntu: Pan-African Student Dialogues at the University of Ghana!

We did a Q&A Highlights with Zizipho🤗🤗🤭 and below is the feedback we got from her experience in Ghana.

1. How was the experience and what did you learn?
"The experience in Ghana was very enriching... I learned that Africa needs to be actively involved in conversations about AI rather than simply being a consumer of technologies developed elsewhere. The experience also strengthened my confidence in presenting and communicating ideas."

2. How will this shape your career and network?
"The exchange has expanded my professional network... I now see greater value in cross-border collaboration and in creating opportunities to share knowledge and skills across African countries."

Thank you Zizipho Dweba for your sharing your wholesome experience with us, here is to creating a more digitally savvy and safe African technology landscape!

The Maranatha Streetworkers Trust has been a beacon of hope since 2002, providing a safe sanctuary for children who need it most. By serving approximately 80 beneficiaries monthly, they do more than just offer shelter; they empower the next generation by teaching vital life skills like gardening and painting.

Happy Mandela Day! 🇿🇦✨
