The Nation’s Shield Security along with its sponsors offer a learnership opportunity

By Palesa Ndinisa

The Nation’s Shield- an organisation that provides security training and development based in the Ekurhuleni area partnered with Unemployment Insurance Fund (UIF), alongside Safety & Security Sector Education & Training Authority (SASSETA) to combat unemployment.

The stipend is R2 000 and the current intake is 60 pupils. The program runs for six months providing a month of theoretical training and 5 months of practical training. The program is also inclusive to applicants residing outside of Ekurhuleni, though first preference will be given to applicants residing within the Ekurhuleni region.

Speaking to its founder, Tshepo Thavhiwa, acknowledged that the partnership has created a sustainable platform that not only trains, but actively transitions learners to possible employment opportunities. “Our decision to partner with the Unemployment Insurance Fund (UIF) and Safety and Security Sector Education and Training Authority (SASSETA) was driven by a clear strategic objective: to directly address unemployment while uplifting industry standards. Partnering with UIF allows us to support unemployed individuals by providing them with structured opportunities to re-enter the workforce, while SASSETA ensures that our training meets nationally accredited standards. This collaboration enables us to deliver impact at scale—empowering individuals with credible qualifications, practical experience and a pathway to sustainable employment,” added Thavhiwa.

The next intake will commence on the 13th of April 2026 for theoretical work as the current intake will be on practical training.
