Your survival at sea starts with the right training.

Working at sea comes with incredible opportunities - but it also comes with real risks.

That’s why Personal Survival Techniques (PST) training is one of the most critical courses every seafarer must complete.

In the unlikely event of abandoning ship, survival depends on knowledge, preparation, and the ability to stay calm under pressure.

Personal Survival Techniques training equips seafarers with the practical skills needed to survive in the water, use lifesaving appliances correctly, and support fellow crew members until rescue arrives.

During the course, seafarers learn how to:
• React effectively during abandon ship situations
• Correctly use lifejackets, immersion suits, and liferafts
• Enter the water safely and conserve energy while awaiting rescue
• Work as a team to improve survival chances
• Understand the effects of cold water and exposure

At sea, your training can make the difference between panic and saving a life.

When you’re at sea, help is not minutes away - it can be hours or even days away.

That’s why Medical First Aid training is one of the most important skills a seafarer can have.

A medical emergency on board can happen at any time: an injury during operations, burns in the engine room, a fall on deck, or a crew member suddenly becoming ill.

In those critical moments, the crew must rely on their training, their teamwork, and their ability to stabilize a patient until professional medical assistance becomes available.

Medical First Aid training equips seafarers with the confidence and competence to:

• Respond effectively to onboard injuries and illnesses

• Stabilize casualties in remote environments

• Manage medical equipment and onboard medical supplies

• Communicate with shore-based medical assistance services

• Potentially save a life when it matters most

At the CPUT Survival Centre in Cape Town, we train seafarers using practical, realistic scenarios that prepare them for the challenges of real-life emergencies at sea.

Contact us today on +27 21 440 5716/63 or [email protected] to find out about upcoming Medical First Aid training dates and secure your place.

Because at sea, preparedness is not optional - it’s essential.
