UCT/MRC Research Unit for Exercise Science and Sports Medicine, Department of Human Biology, Faculty ESSM was founded in 1981 by Prof.

Tim Noakes and a group of researchers from the University of Cape Town (UCT). ESSM is located at the Sports Science Institute of South Africa (SSISA), in Newlands, Cape Town, and boasts state-of-the-art equipment, extensive facilities and internationally renowned research staff whose primary functions are teaching and research. Although located at SSISA, ESSM remains part of the Department of Huma

n Biology within the Faculty of Health Sciences at UCT. ESSM prides itself on using a multi-disciplinary approach in its research to acquire an integrated understanding of the effects of physical activity on the body. ESSM offers the following post-graduate courses:

Professor Caroline Finch is presenting a talk
“Engaging everyone in sports injury prevention. How implementation science can help”

Sports Science Institute of South Africa auditorium on the 14th June from 14.00-15.00.

Professor Finch is the Director of the Australian Centre for Research into Injury in Sport and its Prevention (ACRISP) based in Ballarat, Australia. She has been nominated in the top three most influential international sports medicine researchers in the world. Professor Finch will be performing an open lecture as part of a trip to UCT’s Division of Exercise Science and Sports Medicine, funded by the NRF KIC program, the Chris Burger Petro Jackson Players’ Fund and BokSmart national safety program of SA Rugby.
