University House was Built in 1946 as a temporary structure to house returning servicemen following World War II, University House houses 112 men in six blocks from 1946 but sadly, G-Block, the building that housed the legendary pub "Opstaan" was removed and so UH houses 108 at the moment. UH is situated off Rhodes Avenue and Matopo Road, Mowbray, opposite Mostert's Mill. It still and always will be the best residence at the University of Cape Town.
